The Democratic Party has a tendency to self-destruct.
2008? Party divided between two candidates?
2004 Kerry 'swiftboated' and does not fight back
2000 Gore linked too closely to Clinton and does nothing about it
1988 Dukakis 'tank helmeted' and is lost
1984 Mondale too weak
1980 Carter flattened by Iran hostage crisis and admitted lack of power over the economy
1972 McGovern 'B-24ed' by Nixon and does not fight back
1968 Well, it was 1968

Any ideas on how to stop it this time? I mean without taking on the Repubs' tactics. But maybe that is mutually exclusive.

1. I don't think anybody could've defeated Reagan in 1984. Hart likely would've lost like Mondale. But.

if they want some advice, stand up and fight for something, anything. People don't vote for a party that is timid in action and indecisive. That's a recipe for failure.

5. I don't agree. Saying 'Mondale too weak' is not a party self-destructing.
The GOP has self-destructed recently.

Yeah, we're doing a good job of screwing up right now, and Florida party apparently is populated with plenty of shitheads, but I think some perspective is necessary.

7. Suck it up!
We are a much more diverse party, so it is harder to satisfy all competing interests. Suck it up and realize we ain't gonna get everything we want, and the things we want may take a while.

It's a tough point to sell, though.

9. As in???
Who threw the contest? Kerry comes to mind. But that's just because I'm still pissed at him.

11. The party itself.
I have no doubt that the elections are manipulated so that the democrats put in the candidates that are most likely to either take a dive or the cabalists have stuff on them to destroy them whenever they want.
