In 1992 the Republican Party of Washington state called for outlawing yoga
By the early 1990’s, following Robertson’s campaign, local school boards and county and state offices, mainly in the South and Midwest at first, were falling to the Christian Right routinely, and the Christian Right was well on its way to completely taking over the Republican Party in several states. Already by 1992, the platform of the Republican Party in Washington State called for the criminalization of "witchcraft and yoga classes.”

4. Republics can't spell for shit
Surely they meant "yogurt."

Everybody knows if you eat yogurt you become an apostate and start contemplating your navel instead of tithing.

5. There were idiots on Fox a few months back talking about banning yoga.

Or at least avoiding the chants because they were from a different religion, and it was sacrilege.

6. That's as bad as it gets.
"Already by 1992, the platform of the Republican Party in Washington State called for the criminalization of "witchcraft and yoga classes.”

A full on attempt to criminalize a major world religion, that's bold.

7. It's Part of the Right Wing's War on Culture
the World must live in their own narrow prison with them and nothing else. They fear cultural diversity and education, because they know intelligence is a threat to the foundation of their beliefs, which is ignorance, fear and bigotry.

I am not surprised by this even if it is extremely goofey on their part. Right wingers threatened by Yoga. Think about that....

10. The WA state repubs, since then, have gotten smarter, or more covert, or are just
decreasing in numbers. I fear it's just that they're more covert. They've polished up to seem more palatable and have run more seemingly moderate candidates - though you don't have to scratch too deep to see the nutjob conservative underneath.
