If it were up to me alone, it would be gone already. So many channels with nothing worth watching.

3. Can I choose "pare my cable package way down"?
:D

We have a ridiculously large channel pkg. But, that's the only way we can get certain channels. And, I special order 2 channels (TV5 from France and NFL Network)

4. Teevee.
I'm on a sweet deal with the cable company now, so there wouldn't be much point (I'd save $37/mo, and I could shave off $12 of that if I didn't want the HD/DVR box,) but I'm a student so I can't really go without internet if I want to get any work done.

and you can take out as many as you want ---

How is Netflix different --- ???

And what does it cost?

24. "Dr. Who" spin-off
overall it's kind of like a car crash; it's horrid but I can't look away.

I'm paying ~9 dollars a month for unlimited dvds; they send me one disc, I watch it, send it back in the envelope they sent with the dvd at no additional expense to me, and three days later the next dvd from my online que is in my mailbox.

39. Why would i want to call someone? I used to have a phone and I kept the ringer off
the telephone ring is an option, not a demand to be answered. Anyone I want to talk to is generally available by email or they are under the same roof, or in the same neigborhood.

8. Buh-bye Cable TV. I can get just about everthing from cable TV on the internet.
It's not as convenient but it can be done.

When iTunes started carrying TV shows a number of users dropped their cable because just buying the shows they really wanted on iTunes was less than the cost of cable.

15. I think it counts as internet . . .
simply internet ---

the guy with the antenna doesn't get c-span and he can watch that via the internet ---

The problem is in doing that .... that you can't watch more than one thing at a time ...

and you can't HEAR two things at once ---

For instance, I can use the internet, even watch C-span . . .and put something else on the
little TV I have by my compuer --- and put it on MUTE which I love and I get a text so I can
do two things at once.

18. it's not so bad
on one hand, sometimes I wish I had a separate tv

but on the other hand, it makes me actually get up from my computer when it's running a show or a movie and interact with meatspace, plus there's that whole theory that multitasking cuts productivity in half with every task added, which I buy into.

sitting down to watch a tv show that I'm interested in makes me appreciate it more than when I have it on the tv behind me, and when I'm working it really helps my concentration and quality when my focus isn't split.

but you know, I'm starting to think we need another computer ....
cause I also want to totally get rid of newspapers and my husband is vying with me
for computer time ---

I'm also interested in getting something more portable in computers . . .

Needless to say, I'm not much at technology ---

Any random episodes I get the word I should watch I can easily download from the internet. But in reality there's not much there to hold my interest...

17. I'd give up cable first, naturally . . .
and I'd probably try the antenna route ---

Actually, I thought about 10 years ago, they were supposed to have the tiniest of antennae --
like 4" H and 2" wide that would be available and knock out cable ---

Satellite is a big deal --- I hate the cable companies as well --- !!!

I'd give up cable before the Internet though.

40. You might fare better with the antenna and a digital converter
I gave up cable years ago. . .when I got my first flat screen I've been using rabbit ears and getting excellent reception on 13 digital stations in a 60-mile radius. I used to get varied, snowy pictures.

31. Cable can be pricey
Edited on Sun Mar-16-08 07:00 AM by BadgerKid
The local provider solicits us once a month, either by mail or by sending someone in person, basically, to find out "why wouldn't you want cable?"

Funny thing, the TV has been collecting dust for over four years. Crazy, I know. The question is whether to bother buying a digital to analog converter.

42. I'm much more fond of movies anymore
I really enjoy movies and buying/renting them is much cheaper than cable.

I've considered letting go of the cable and just having a flat screen strictly for movies and whatever over the air HD channels there will be. My local CBS affiliate has been broadcasting in HD for the past few years.

I don't even have a good answer as to why I havent yet just had the cable yanked. I **rarely** look at anything on TV any longer -- all I'm interested in is available on the Net.

Mostly use the tube as a device to view Netflix rentals.

If you're an information junkie like I am, you know that the TV only doles out meager portions of information that needs to be heavily filtered.

46. Honestly I only keep my cable because I get a discount for multiple services
I have a high speed cable modem, which is deductible for me as a self-employment expense. Without the discount for multiple services, the internet alone would be $50 a month; with both, it's $75 before the various taxes and fees. I figure the extra $25 isn't *that* much since I don't go out to eat or to see movies in theaters etc. But I could very easily live without cable and have done so at lots of times when I had to cut out even that $25. It would be very difficult (even painful LOL) for me to go without internet!
