What will you do with your stimulus money from Bush? |
|
Our family just received a letter from the IRS which details that we will receive $1,800 from the government ($600 per adult, plus $300 for each child). In an effort to "stimulate the economy", we're all getting checks.
I was wondering if people are willing to share what you will do with this money.
What are your plans.
Bush is hoping that we will all run out and by big-screen televisions, leather couches, more Pottery Barn, or maybe use it for a down payment on larger purchases like automobiles.
My husband and I both agreed that this $1,800 will not see the light of day. It's going into savings.
I suspect that George Bush's "big-screen" theory is wrong. People will use that money to pay down credit-card debt and other debts. They'll sock it away. The mindset out there is just a bit different now. People are scared. The economy is in recession.
If anyone is willing to share, what will you be doing with your check from the IRS?

Spouse and I have agreed to put ours in a household account dedicated to replacement/repair/maintenance of items in our house. I expect my dishwasher and/or my clothes washer to die any time now. Having alittle cushion in a separate bank account makes us feel better and keeps us from arguing over what to do with it. We both agree we need to keep the house in good shape and to have certain appliances (tho not top of the line).

Most moronic fucking plan ever.
To pay my taxes for me, the government is borrowing money which further depresses the value of our currency, making oil more expensive, thus making my life more miserable and making me less inclined to purchase anything I don't absolutely need.
Dumbasses. I don't need an economics degree from the University of Chicago to know that this government is run by idiots.

I have some ER/hospital bills, too, but I'm going to pay them out of my regular income just as I would be doing if there were no "stimulus" check.
I'm already putting away as much as I can into savings; I want as big a cushion as I can build up against what's coming down the line economically in this country.

I worked as a consultant a little last year and made about $3,700. Now I have to pay taxes on that income. I think our $1,200 stimulus money will just about cover it.
If it weren't for that I would pay off other debt.

I made less than $422 on a temp job last year and once that was combined with Mr. Pup's statement, I have to give back $324 of it! Anything above that will finish off the credit cards. They were on schedule to be gone by June, but I'll retire them a little ahead of schedule. Anything left after that: savings!

45. Pay the deductibles we incurred on our health insurance |
|
Over the last couple of months, both mr. frazzled and myself had to visit doctors for the first time in over a year. I was ordered foot x-rays, and he had to get an echo-cardiogram. Since our deductible is $500 per person or $1000 per family, we racked up that large bill easily (the x-rays were over $700, the heart test over $1700). We will use the proposed stimulus money to pay off those deductible charges.
That will leave us $200 from the stimulus. We just had to pay a plumber $300 to fix a leak in the shower. I guess that leaves us a total of a hundred bucks in the hole. So we won't go out to dinner or buy a new spring outfit. Final impact on economy: negative.

What a pile of shit. Between the Iraq occupation and Bush's tax cut and this dumb "stimulus" money couldn't the United States provide universal health care about 3x over??? Or would that be too logical and helpful?? I believe that Bush et al. are actually evil...I've said before that the Health Care system is a perfect storm of American Oppression and one of the biggest scams to be pulled on the citizens of the United States. It combines making HUGE profits with keeping people physically unhealthy and constantly afraid/nervous. Subjugation at it's finest.

Is this like that "rebate" we got during the Idiots first term? In other words its just an advance on next years tax refund for those who get one - like me - or you'll owe whatever you owe plus this check. So if I were to say get an $850 refund next year it would be $600 less because of this "rebate"?

Quit giving misinformation. It's a stupid idea, and done only for Bush's political gain. I'm not even going to cash mine. But it's NOT taxable, quit telling people it is. And it's not an early refund of next year's taxes.
"Q. Is my stimulus payment taxable?
A. No. You will not owe tax on your payment when you file your 2008 federal income tax return. But you should keep a copy of the IRS letter you receive later this year listing the amount of your payment. In the event you do not qualify for the full amount this year but you do next year, you will need to have the letter as a record of the amount you previously received.
Q. Will the payment I receive in 2008 reduce my 2008 refund or increase the amount I owe for 2008?
A. No, the stimulus payment will not reduce your refund or increase the amount you owe when you file your 2008 return."

But I know where they are. And, I'm beginning to think my playing is ready for them, my mechanics are as good as they've been in 20+ years. And I'm having a ball when I sit down. :)
That last sentence is why I started drumming again. When it becomes something besides playing and enjoying it, the sticks sit until I unscrew my head, remember what a joy this gift/talent/blessing is, and sit back down and play again.

But that's an assumption and I've never found it to be a good idea to spend money, even mentally, until it's in my hot little fist. So I'll see what feels most prudent if and when the check comes. Until that happens, it ain't in my budget.

73. Thanks for the links... but I'm still unsure... I never paid myself a paycheck |
|
I ran my business as a sole propriertorship, but I never paid myself. All I did was dump money into the place, it seemed like. I have never worried about taxes in my adult life. One of my aunts was an executive director for H&R Block and after working there for 28 years, she opened her own place with her daughter. All I have EVER done is send her my W-2's every year and say "wave your magic wand", and she would get me money back.
My mother and my cousin have been taking care of all the tax stuff, all I know is that I did close to $300,000 in sales, but after all expenses, it still wiped me out personally. I lost money. Big time. I don't OWE any taxes, but I'm not getting any back, either.... I don't know what it is, but when I start reading tax code stuff, my eyes just glaze over and my brain fogs up.
Maybe I will get something, who knows... it would be nice, and could be put to good use.
Thanks again for the links...
PEACE!

76. I'm doing what your number one suspicion is... |
|
paying down my credit cards. That's going to be really exciting for me.
Certainly nothing material or entertaining planned.

79. I won't get a stimulus payment. |
|
2007 was my senior year in college. After graduation, I moved to Washington to help my grandmother, who had just been diagnosed with Parkinsons. I did not enter the workforce until December; she fell and was hospitalized so I stopped looking for work in January to help her recover. I started looking again in mid-February and am still unemployed.
No stimulus check for me, but if I did get one, it'd be going to pay down credit cards.
