Tiger Woods: Another great win today. Remarkable.
What a putt at 18. I'm sorry, I know many will dismiss him here, but we have not seen his likes before. He is just amazing, and as a guy who has been a sports nut since 1960, I feel compelled to remind everyone about just how special he is.

I hope he uses his platform to speak out, unlike Michael Jordan.

Wow.

Yes he can.

1. Tiger is lucky that he's a black man....if he wasn't,
...he'd just be one of the greatest golfers in history...

2. Tiger Woods has transcended race in the way Obama will
No one says that Tiger would not be where he was if he was white.

5. Yes, the parallels are obvious. Mixed race, and both amazing Americans.
I hope that somebody asks Tiger about it. He must recognize what's going on with Obama, and it must impact him personally.

Tiger is a phenom the likes we have never seen. And Barack was the first African-American to edit the Harvard Law Review. Barack is 15 years older, but wow.

Come on, Tiger. Give Barack your endorsement.

6. I don't believe Tiger is craven enough to endorse Obama simply because
he's light brown.

11. It's not because he's "light brown." It's their remarkable life experiences.
You are obviously not an Obama supporter, but you would have to be obtuse not to recognize certain parallels in their lives: Mixed race great achievers, and two remarkable life stories.

So sue me...
(Actually I don't think much more of Clinton)

At the grand opening of the Tiger Woods Learning Center on 02/13/06 the featured speakers were Bill Clinton and Maria Shriver.

7. Announcer said he was 0 for 21 for the week on putts longer than 20 feet: until the 72nd hole
I've been a sports nut since the '40s and second that we've never seen the likes of what he is now doing for even he realizes he's even better than when he won all four majors back-to-back-to-back-to-back.

That was really something, and I would have loved to see Arnie and Tiger together.

They obviously have a great deal of affection for each other.

17. Be careful what you wish for
1st, why would you assume he would speak out on anything? Do all black people think the same? That in itself is a bit of a stereotype.

2nd, Maybe he's a repub. One of his best friends and business partners is his neighbor and huge Bear Stearns investor Joseph Lewis.

Joe Lewis, the privacy-loving billionaire who, along with Daniel Levy, controls Tottenham Hotspur football club, has just taken one of his biggest gambles.

He has invested $860m for a 7 per cent stake in Bear Stearns, the investment bank that has been the worst casualty of this summer's credit market crisis, it was revealed yesterday.(snip)

Mr Lewis sponsors an annual charity event between residents of his two gated communities in Orlando, Florida, home to golf legends Tiger Woods and Ernie Els. It was the association between Woods and Mr Lewis that led to the world No 1's appearance at a tiny pro-am golf tournament in Limerick in 2000, and Mr Lewis once bid $1.4m to partner Woods at another charity event. The pair are firm friends. "Any time I have any kind of business venture that I might be leery of, I can run it by him," Tiger Woods said in an interview last year.

Maybe Tiger prefers to stay out of politics making him very smart indeed.

19. Your first comment is absurd. Your second is a genuine concern.
He has an undeniable platform - regardless of his race, given his greatness - and his late father predicted that he would be an extraordinary agent of change. No need to comment further on your first observation.

I share your concern about the second possibility, however. Next to NASCAR, I am guessing that pro golfers are about as Republican as it gets. Tiger will be the first sports billionaire, so I can only hope that he won't go GOP.

It's a risk, admittedly. I will be careful what I wish for. You are not wrong here.

Helluva putt, though.

The first tournament I attended was the 1964 Buick Open in Flint, MI, where the tragically late and great "Champagne" Tony Lema won.

I bet you remember that name. One of the greatest ever, but killed in a plane crash at 32. We would have been mentioning his name with Hogan, Nicklaus, Palmer had he lived.

He would have been 74 this year.

27. Oh my, 74??? wow.....and I do remember him too.....
loved watching sports with my dad.....although, one time, I remember him saying "put in the black guys" when watching the NCAA basketball tournament. There was a team of mostly whites playing and he said that, *shrug* .....I never really knew what he meant, never got a chance to ask him, he died before I could. He's the reason I love sports today, Packer football, Badger football/basketball, Brewer baseball, tennis, golf, and the olympics, dang near any sport on TV, I miss him.
