"Large trees were uprooted!" From a talking news bimbo a minute ago. |
|
As if to demonstrate a powerful storm...but SMALL trees weren't disturbed. It reminded me of the genius who said "the area received nickel and even dime-sized hail last night." Just more crap that makes you wanna scream.

From one who lives in a tornado zone and has seen some up close and personal: It goes without saying that small trees may or may not get uprooted. But also remember that tornadoes can be very random. So I guess the point of my post is what makes you so angry about an anchor saying "Large trees were uprooted"? Please don't be irrational in your obvious hatred of the media.

lots of times small trees aren't in the path of the tornado...if it doesn't touch near the ground. It also depends on the size of the tap root. Trees that don't have huge tap roots are very vulnerable to wind.

8. Sorry, I just meant it to say the obvious - that large trees are far more susceptible |
|
to wind damage than small ones are. I guess I didn't realize not everyone knows that. My bad.

4. One of our local nitwits actually said: |
|
"We had hail-sized golf balls" after a storm last year.

5. They can't say that there are puddles during a rainstorm. |
|
They say "ponding". :banghead:
People who turn nouns into verbs irk me.

9. The TV station that I watch for the weather report had a segment |
|
with a huge graphic labeled 'future radar,' with moving rain, clouds, etc. I emailed them suggesting that radar actually shows what is happening in current time, and that if we had 'future radar' just think of the lives we could save by having people move out of a tornado path that will strike in a few hours, or have military and civilians go to another spot that the bombs won't be landing on.
They responded that future radar is the same as a forecast.
