I'd just like to remind everyone that today, March 16, is the 40th anniversary of the My Lai massacre.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/My_Lai_MassacreObviously this is important enough on its own terms, but I'd also like everyone to think about it in relation to now.
Today, men, women and children are dying for absolutely no reason, just like at My Lai. We've learned nothing as a society, because we still continue to get involved in (or in this case, START) unwinnable wars for no good reason.
I understand that the economy is a big deal and I agree that Bu$h has indeed fucked it up terribly, but I can't help but feel like it's kinda selfish for Americans, no matter how rich or poor, to say that the economy is the "#1 issue in this election," knowing that to this day, American troops, Iraqi civilians, and God knows who else are dying in a war based on lies.
The next president can stop this war. The next Congress can stop this war. The voters can stop this war by electing leaders that will put an end to this madness.
Congress, voters, the next president - STOP THIS WAR. God DAMN it. I'm SICK AND FUCKING TIRED of hearing about how "the surge is working" just because "ONLY however many troops died this month." I've HAD it with this shit. ONE death on account of Bu$h's lies would have been too much, let alone 4000 U.S. troops and an untold number (surely totaling over a million) Iraqis. I've HAD IT.
I'm sorry if that got a little off-topic, but I think it relates.
