Mideast's first women-only hotel opens in Saudi Arabia

Mar 18 03:33 PM US/Eastern

The Middle East's first women-only hotel was officially opened in the capital of the ultra-conservative kingdom of Saudi Arabia on Tuesday.
Prince Sultan bin Salman bin Abdul Aziz, secretary general of the Supreme Commission for Tourism, attended the inauguration of the Luthan Hotel and Spa in Riyadh.

Saudi Arabia, which applies a rigorous doctrine of Islam known as Wahhabism, strictly enforces the separation of the sexes in public, and the 25-room hotel said it can offer its female-only guests 150 types of spa treatments as well as fine dining and conference facilities.

3. yep, it is amazing how backward it is-I take courage
from the women of Afghanistan, they have really made so many efforts to keep their lives togther and move ahead and not take shit from the men. My friend did a documentary on their work/lives, their courage.

4. Must be a fascinating documentary. I wish they'd do an undercover documentary
about Saudi women (disguising their identity wouldn't be tough!)

2. So, they have to import more maids from the Phillipines
to deal with them, it would be 'haram' for them to have male staff anywhere in the hotel.

So, Abdullah drops off Fatima and picks her up in the morning? I mean, they're not traveling alone.

6. Why is it . . .
that Muslim men are to terrified of women -- so much so that a women-only hotel doesn't seem completely ridiculous to them? I just don't get it.
