Protesters arrested at anti-war rally

Anti-war protesters from Binghamton University block the eastbound traffic on the Vestal Parkway this afternoon.
Ten protesters were being charged this afternoon in connection with an anti-war rally that tied up traffic on the Vestal Parkway.
Just after 1 p.m., protesters walked on the Vestal Parkway east from the Binghamton University to Plaza Drive at Service Road near the University Plaza.
The situation escalated when protesters began walking in traffic. Officers reportedly used pepper spray.
The protesters were arrested after they began shoving police officers, said Vestal Police Chief John Butler. Some were charged with disorderly conduct, a violation, while some were also charged with resisting arrest, a misdemeanor, Butler said.
Protesters disputed that version of events, saying police officers escalated the situation by using pepper spray after one BU student lost his balance and fell into a police vehicle.
