TUCSON, Ariz. -

Some 40 to 50 supporters of U.S. troops and the Bush administration's conduct of the war
in Iraq demonstrated peacefully in Tucson on the fifth anniversary of the war's start.

Across the street from the demonstration in front of a midtown military recruiting station
Wednesday. A handful of protesters faced off with anti-war signs.

Numerous motorists driving past those backing the war honked in support.

Several of those demonstrating had sons or other relatives in the military deployed to Iraq.

At least two women who emigrated to the U.S. from Central and South America said they appreciate
the freedoms the United States affords. Protesters said most Americans oppose the war.

1. Thanks
Thanks for the pics Breeze. The news in Los Angeles hardly ever mentions protests. Last year there was a big protest march near Hollywood, and several thousand people were there. One local news channel did mention the protest, but never mentioned how many people attended, and--get this--they showed video from a completely different protest where there were only a couple of dozen protesters, It wasn't an accident. They deliberately made the big protest look like it didn't happen. If this happens everywhere, and I'm sure it does, it's a design to keep us from knowing how strong we really are.

3. Welcome to DU, lob1... The media has been ignoring all the protest for years

They barely report on it or if they do, it's like you said. The bare minimum and they sometimes use old footage and they always report the attendance at the marches as really low, like they did in Sept. 2005 in DC! They said "maybe 100,000" but I was there and it was huge!! More like 500,000 + !!

2. Historically, DC cops have generally treated political protesters fairly
I hope that the interactions today go smoothly and without violence
