Fact check: Bush equates Iraqi militants with al Qaida, claims uprising against bin Laden

WASHINGTON - President Bush brought up al-Qaida 14 times Wednesday in a 26-minute speech marking the anniversary of the Iraq war. He wasn't coy about his point: If America stops fighting in Iraq, there could well be new attacks at home by Osama bin Laden's terror network.

"Defeating this enemy in Iraq will make it less likely that we'll face the enemy here at home," Bush said.

Conversely, he added: "To allow our enemies to prevail in Iraq ... would be to ignore the lessons of September the 11th and make it more likely that America would suffer another attack like the one we experienced that day."

Administration efforts to link Iraq and al-Qaida and Iraq and Sept. 11 have waxed and waned ever since the 2001 attacks.

2. This dumbass and his dumbass buddy, McInsane, still don't know who they are fighting. Perhaps it is
time for Bush* to explore the Saudi relationship with the hijackers, and the Sunnis in Iraq.

3. This is one of the RW's LAMEST shticks: "We're fighting them over there, etc."
How simple-minded does a wingnut have to be to truly believe that, if U.S. troops are baby-sitting a civil war in Iraq, someone -- anyone -- couldn't commit a terrible act here?

Are "the terrorists" (as the RW is fond of invoking at every chance) unable to get to the U.S. because... what, they're too BUSY?????????

Then, of course, there were the bombings in London and Madrid. Our presence in Iraq was certainly a big help in those two instances. :sarcasm:
