Petition against giving Yukon Flats Wildlife Refuge to Big Oil

I got this E-Mail today, it is in regards to the granting of Alaska's Yukon Flats Wildlife Refuge, (100,000 plus acres) to a couple of Oil and Mineral profiteers. No, I do not know how all this works but I do know that I am against giving away public lands to private enterprise and especially to Big Oil ones.

The petition is all nicely worded and addressed, all ya gots to do is fill in your address and E-Mail. (on edit: kicking this thread for the critters in that Wildlife Refuge would be welcome too)

Big British oil corporations such as BP pollute and don't pay their royalities to us have to go.

They get a piece of Iraq oil too but we die and pay for it...or most of it.

I do not know how all of this works but, it seems to me that we are talking about OUR public lands here set aside as a National Wildlife Refuge. If that's the case, how can someone in OUR government get away with just giving away OUR LAND to a couple of their profiteer buds?

I, know, I know, there is lots more to this than I could know without detailed study but that is how I see it. Furthermore I am sick of giving stuff away to Big Oil. They have proven time and again that they do not have We The People's interests in mind. They instead have their bottom line: MORE PROFITS in mind and they don't give a damn about anyone or anything else.

4. Well I typed my letter, etc, but discovered the campaign was unavailable

Here's my letter (not written with any expectation of being persuasive):

"So you corrupt bastards are planning to turn over yet more of our common land and natural heritage to those whose only goal is to rape and pillage? Not surprised. If you have any sense of decency or self-respect I would ask you to take no action to further this criminal enterprise. But I don't expect that. You are soulless monsters driven only by greed. Prove me wrong, please."

But here's the result I got:
"Campaign Unavailable
We're sorry, this alert is no longer available. If you would like to learn more about ways you can take action, please visit WildAlert."

Maybe too late (that might be good news) but http://www.wilderness.org/index.cfm is a good organization and worth supporting and using as a resource.

7. Thanks for the update!

I swear, I posted this in GD and Enviroment hours ago hoping to get a few nibbles. Got them too. I posted this just a bit ago over in the lounge and immidiatly after that posting I noticed your response that there was a problem. I quicky edited my lounge post so folks there would take note of a potential problem all the while feeling bad for the posting. Some days ya just can't win. Oh well, If I managed to get a few DUers to add their data to that petition, then I did better than just sitting on that e-mail.
