"For the Bible Tells Me So."
Has anyone here heard of this documentary recently released on DVD? The synopsis is this: What if a child in a fundie-Christian family turns out to be gay?

I don't know....sound like another "Jesus Camp" to me. :scared:

1. From their site:
Can the love between two people ever be an abomination? Is the chasm separating gays and lesbians and Christianity too wide to cross? Is the Bible an excuse to hate?

Winner of the Audience Award for Best Documentary at the Seattle International Film Festival, Dan Karslake's provocative, entertaining documentary brilliantly reconciles homosexuality and Biblical scripture, and in the process reveals that Church-sanctioned anti-gay bias is based almost solely upon a significant (and often malicious) misinterpretation of the Bible. As the film notes, most Christians live their lives today without feeling obliged to kill anyone who works on the Sabbath or eats shrimp (as a literal reading of scripture dictates).

Through the experiences of five very normal, very Christian, very American families -- including those of former House Majority Leader Richard Gephardt and Episcopal Bishop Gene Robinson -- we discover how insightful people of faith handle the realization of having a gay child. Informed by such respected voices as Bishop Desmond Tutu, Harvard's Peter Gomes, Orthodox Rabbi Steve Greenberg and Reverend Jimmy Creech, FOR THE BIBLE TELLS ME SO offers healing, clarity and understanding to anyone caught in the crosshairs of scripture and sexual identity.

2. Jesus loves me, this is true...
He loves me, but He don't love you.

4. Goes like this:
I know you smoke, I know you drink that brew
I just can't abide a sinner like you
God can't either, that's why I know it to be true that
Jesus loves me, but he can't stand you

I'm going to heaven, boys, when I die
'Cause I've crossed every 't' and I've dotted every 'i'
My preacher tell me that I'm God's kind of guy; that's why
Jesus loves me, but you're gonna fry

God loves all his children, by gum
That don't mean he won't incinerate some
Can't you feel those hot flames licking you
Woo woo woo

I'm raising my kids in a righteous way
So don't be sending your kids over to my house to play
Yours'll grow up stoned, left-leaning and gay; I know
Jesus told me on the phone today

Jesus loves me, this I know
And he told me where you're gonna go
There's lots of room for your kind down below
Whoa whoa whoa

Jesus loves me but he can't stand you

3. That's not what I heard...
Of course, now I can't find anything...but here are 2 links:

The New York Times review http://movies.nytimes.com/2007/10/05/movies/05bibl.html">says:

“For the Bible Tells Me So” is, strictly speaking, an educational film, with the artlessness that that phrase implies.

5. It's actually completely different from Jesus Camp.
I'm not sure how anyone can draw the conclusion that they're remotely similar.

I Netflixed it a few weeks ago, and it's a great documentary detailing how the Bible is used to condemn homosexuality, and pokes great holes in the fundie argument. It features Liberal Christians and their LGBT children (including Dick Gephardt and his wife and daughter Chrissy).

There are heartbreaking parts of it, including a recovering fundie woman whose lesbian daughter committed suicide after she came out to her parents and mom rejected her. She is now a member of PFLAG and works to help other families of LGBT children.

Probably the most moving moment is at the end where the PFLAGers march in Colorado Springs and try to give James Dobson a message.
