How many people have you "denounced" and under what circumstances? |
|
I mean, besides the obvious guy that we all denounce.

3. Is that 'renouncing' or 'denouncing'? |
|
And what's the difference, anyway?

5. Lots. Circumstances: they were DU trolls. |
|
Some of them lasted a VERY long time here, but my record speaks for itself: Whether they lasted a day or 5 years, the vast majority of the asshats I've called "trolls" are tombstoned now.
I've only once "denounced" a person IRL; that was a very difficult situation that I don't talk about online much.

7. undeterred, don't you mean "name calling?" |
|
From the online American Heritage Dictionary:
de·nounce (dĭ-nouns') Pronunciation Key tr.v. de·nounced, de·nounc·ing, de·nounc·es
1. To condemn openly as being evil or reprehensible. See Synonyms at criticize. 2. To accuse formally. 3. To give formal announcement of the ending of (a treaty).
Nobody here can "formally" accuse anybody, as that's kind of like a legal thing involving lawyers and courtrooms and paper and stuff, which we can't afford. We also don't really have a treaty outside of the DU operating rules...well, maybe that might apply. But I think you were thinking of Definition 1 above. And I think that's pretty much name calling.

8. Actually what I am thinking of is how many people |
|
have called upon one of the presidential candidates to "denounce" someone in his life. How many people walk around denouncing someone in their life who is an important figure like a teacher or public official, or pastor? You might distance yourself or express disappointment, but to truly cut someone off or disown them or "denounce" them every time there's a disagreement- well who would be left? In real life, breaks between people are not usually so dramatic.

9. denounced in what way? |
|
i have a friend who has a little ruler and calls the parish authorities every time his neighbor's grass gets more than 7 inches high (the rule in his neighborhood)
i have another friend (who has served time for extortion) who has a nasty little hobby of reporting people to various federal authorities for crimes they may have, or may have not, actually committed, both for her entertainment and sometimes for profit (blackmail, rewards, etc)
for the most part, to get me to "denounce" you, you have to really peeve me off, for instance, i saw a man walking a man down the street with a GUN stuck in the other dude's side, yeah, i called 911 on that one in a heartbeat, but i tend to let the neighbor's grass grow for at least 3 months before i pick up the phone...
i've had information on two rightwing politicians, one of them, because unfortunately he's a "friend" i have never "denounced," the other was david duke and i eventually turned in the information i had anonymously -- they had SOOOO much stuff on that guy without me tho, that i don't think it mattered if i spoke up or not, he was protected, for some reason duke has never really had to pay anything but a slap on the wrists for all of his crimes
at the end of the day IOKIYAR and i feel i probably waste my time by trying to report their evil deeds
