The award for the most bizarre reason for current gas prices goes to...
"We would not be in this position if the Clinton administration had added $1 per gallon gas tax ten years ago because the highway fleet would be more fuel efficient. Instead we have overcrowed highways with oversize vehicles..."

There you have it folks. The Clenis did it. It does make sense. After all; only Democratic presidents are at fault in times like these.

But; it begs the question: if adding a buck to a gallon would have solved the problem, why hasn't the fearless decider had the balls to do it?
I hate being "overcrowed".

3. No way in hell the GOP Congress would have put up with such a move.
Remember when Al Gore was professing that the only way to get cars more fuel efficient was to impose $5/gal gasoline right then? He was ridiculed endlessly.

And how about the efforts to bump up CAFE standards or simply put SUVs under CAFE?

We're surrounded by idiots who think we're as stupid as they are.

4. Ironically, that was one idea that was floated out there
in the mid-90's. One idea was a $0.50 - $1.00 gas tax in order to promote conservation and to keep the additional money in America's pocket rather than the Middle East. Obviously this idea (not sure exactly where it came from) never came to fruition.

No way it would have ever passed the repub congress of the 90's though.
