So let's seize the time and focus on the here and now, not the past and what could have been in Gore but what CAN be now in Obama. Time moves on and one of the only constants in the universe is change.

The time is NOW for fighting global warming and fighting the corporate bastards primarily responsible.
Obama is a corporatist through and through. He's NOT gonna do jack shit to stop global warming.
Gore is the man of the hour and the time. This country needs him a helluva lot more than it needs to prove a point about race.

|
I think people are made by the circumstances and individuals do not make them. FDR could not have implemented the New Deal in the 1920s no matter what he tried. The Civil Rights movements would not have been as effective 30 years previous. Reagan could not have pulled off what he did without the public turning against the left on the grassroots level as they did. I can go on and on.

I love Gore, but it's too late for him to enter the race and do anything but be divisive. However if he stepped up and threw his chips in with Obama - or Clinton! - It would probably settle the damn argument pretty handily.

gore is the only one smart enough to even start solving all the problems we are facing.
but his time was before the deadline to jump in this election.
he has shown that he can't be bothered, and is already almost irrelevant, as far as global warming. he doesn't get near the air play he used to.
so much for feeling he could do more "outside" politics.
a bully pulpit can always be used to the occupant's advantage.
now we will have to do it on our own, and i don't have a whole lot of confidence in the two options we have, and even less in the american people.

Look at all that Obama has gone through already and its just the primaries! Anyone who upsets the status quo is dragged through the mud. Obama seems tough enough-after all just look at his background. He had to fit in in many different places. As for Gore, I think any hatred towards this man is utterly vile. Who had th guts besides Keith Olberman to take on th Bush administration in the early days? Who spoke out against the Iraq war from the beginning and was already a well known politican? Who has taken a cause no one wanted to touch (climate cahnge) and carried it on his back, alone for so many years? Who else could bounce back from the devestation of having a presidential election "stolen" from them? He is a good man, and a great patriot and has spoken out about our loss of freedoms starting from the patriot act on. As far as running for president goes, I think Gore realizes that alot of hatred and vitrol would have been spewed at him by the right wing and might have distracted from the problems this country faces. He also might have thought that climate change should be his number one cause and with the Iraq war and the economy and health care that it would be pushed to the bottom if he ran for president. That is his life cause and he needs to concentrate on that as the future of or world and mankind depend on him and others to put pressure on businesses and government to change their way of doing things.

42. I would happily accept Al Gore as President whether he runs or is drafted. |
|
I believe our nation and the world definitely need his vision and leadership.
I also believe he paid a heavy price for essentially using his leadership in helping to bring about through technological means, Martin Luther King's dream by empowering the American People via championing opening up the Internet to them. I believe the Internet is the greatest enhancement to Freedom of Speech since the First Amendment was originally drafted.
In conclusion, I believe any political leader; who comes along and sincerely represents the interests of the American People and a commitment to the Constitution and rule of law benefits from Al Gore's contribution.
Thanks for the thread, madinmaryland.:hi:

Now would be a fine time for Gore to throw some karma the Clinton's way, particular after the way Bill's sociopathic sexual escapades made it difficult for Gore to gain a healthy early support margin in 2000.

64. I want him as president, but I don't want him to run for the nomination |
|
It would be ludicrous if he were to jump in at this point. He'd have no delegates and no base at the convention. The only way for Al Gore to be the nominee of the Democratic Party in November will be for a hopelessly deadlocked convention in Denver to turn to him in desperation. This would mean that both Hillary and Obama would prefer to see the boat sink rather than bow out gracefully. I think that if one of them should see a hopeless situation in Denver, that they would not want to be known as a spoiler forever at this crucial moment in history. Should I be wrong about that, and the convention is deadlocked, I'm betting Howard will call Gore into his hotel room or meet him in some unlit back alleyway somewhere, and say, Al, you have to go up to that podium and tell us, in the most eloquent speech you have ever given, why the Democratic party MUST win this election this November, and then say that if the party cannot agree on one of the very capable candidates vying for the nomination, that you will lead the party's ticket if they want you to.
I don't give that much chance of happening, but if it does, you will hear shouts of Gore, GORE, GOOORE!!!!! so loud that a panicked Colorado Department of Public Safety will be sending inspectors to check for structural damage to the Convention Center.
