Another element of the formulas: whether an account holder was a "politically exposed person." At first focused on potentially crooked foreign officials, the PEP lists expanded to include many U.S. politicians and public officials who were conceivably vulnerable to corruption.

2. I don't think Spitzer will take this lying down
no pun intended.
I'm not taking up for his hipocritical ass by any means mind you but I have loosely followed his career and what I have seen is a smart man with big assed balls, so to speak. bushco is only buying time with this bust, it will not be an end to him.

3. Yes...And No...
It still appears that his transfer of funds over 10k is what triggered the IRS to action...and Spitzer knew it as he tried to get his name off those transfers. The law was to monitor large cash transfers that was supposed to be a tip off of drug dealing. I am willing to agree that when someone at the IRS saw Spitzer's name, this red flag got a lot of attention...and he became a target.

The chicken and the egg here is that had Spitzer been "smarter" and not sent these transfers, there's a good chance he'd still be governor today...but also that his reckless behavior all but asked to get caught. He was a "politically exposed person" the moment he started to hide his hypocrisies and scandals and could be compromised or blackmailed. Who knows if this didn't happen.
