8 Inches of snow, what month is it? Calgon take me away.
It took almost two hours to shovel eight inches of snow. I had to reschedule the oil change and tire rotation for ten and thought to myself, self why do I live in this terrible State. I no longer play hockey, I don't ski, I don't hunt, and the beauty of the snow wears off after the first snowfall.
While shoveling, the Geese were flying overhead squawking and probably asking themselves why are we here. The whole two hours birds flew over the pond asking, what are we doing here, it was a bizarre scene. I paused for a minute, then laughed at the birds and geese, because I will be on the beach, Saturday morning the 29th, surf board in hand, for my yearly sabbatical to worship the Sun God.
It has been one harsh winter here in the Great White North. I bid you farewell and will speak to you all again sometime in late April, refreshed and revived knowing that summer is around the corner.

1. We dodged the worst of it in the N. Detroit suburbs.....
.... but it's three more inches. 67 inches of snow this year - double the seasonal average! Enough, already!

2. We normal average 72 inches but are around 105 inches for this winter.
Be glad you dodged it, because it was wet heavy and nasty. They closed parts of 94 yesterday near KZOO.

3. Yeah. I took a train from Detroit to Chicago last month......
.... and there was some snow on the ground and light snow falling in this part of the state, and by time the train got to K'zoo, there were mounds of snow on either side of the train and blizzard conditions. That lake effect is no joke!

5. The mountains here got a decent snowpack this winter
which means the runoff will provide adequate irrigation water for the ranches downstream.

It's been pretty dry here in the valley and absolutely arid in the southern part of NM.

At least this year we didn't get a freak 18 inch snowstorm. This town doesn't have plows and I was snowbound for a week last winter, very unusual for the high desert.

6. It's still March. You live in Michigan. Suck it up!
Or do what I did, and move to Northern California.

Another beautiful sunny day is beginning right now.

I grew up in Buffalo, so I can relate!B-)

10. Michigan has four seasons:
Just like everybody else, but they're a little different:

Almost winter, winter, still winter, road repair.

At least, that's the joke in my family.

14. But we've been spoiled by mild winters of late.....
January 2007 saw a few days above 70s and golfing conditions for much of the month.

8. 15 inches here in the suburbs of Milwaukee...with a beautiful blue sky
replacing yesterday's visibilities of less than a quarter mile.

The good news is it's now above freezing, the walks are melting what the snowblower didn't get and the end of the driveway is reopened to the street.

And as always after such a mess, Don't forget your elderly neighbors and remember to dig out the fire hydrants!

15. This Is The HEAVY Stuff...
We got about 4 inches outside Chicago...better than the 10-12 they predicted...but it might as well have been. This winter has been a "fun" one...while we didn't get any monster snows, we got them constantly followed by a shot of cold. But us Midwesterners are made of tough stuff...and some of us have seen worse.

Looks like most of this stuff will wash away on Tuesday...adding to more fun for the folks down river.

18. It has been -40 below up in
Prudhoe Bay, AK. It finally warmed up to -30 and it feels like a heat wave. That is without the wind chill factor. If you add that it has been around -60 to -70. I went to Portland OR. for a class two weeks ago and it was around 60 degrees I thought I was in heaven.

22. If it's any consolation...
The Bradford Pears are blooming here in the South. (For some reason, my town is blanketed in the vile things, instead of the far more pleasing Dogwoods.) Spring is inching up your way.

24. 75 degrees here in Alabama today. I mowed the grass for the second time in two weeks.
Trees are turning green and the dogwoods are looking good. Snakes and other varmints are out and about. The carpenter bees are doing their spring thing. I fucking hate winter and those cold 50-degree days.
