Comparing LBJ to GWB Toon It isn't on line so I recreated it
as best I could.

Credit goes to Herald Leader columnist and contributing cartoonist Henry Riekert.

He entitled his cartoon "War's terrible toll on presidents."

1968 LBJ

2008 GWB

3. Unlike bush, LBJ was able to feel regret, to understand that his actions
had negative consequences.

18. When they are put on trial for their crimes, maybe some reality will
seep into their thick skull.

20. Please God.
When Biden was campaigning he was asked about impeachment and he indicated that (I'm LOOSELY paraphrasing) information/proof was being gathered to ensure that if such an action took place, it could legally stand.

If he was correct, I hope the info gathering is still in full swing. I'd love to see them tried and imprisoned.

21. If it wasn't for the restraints we have, he'd be as brutal as Stalin. I truly
feel he has such blackness in his heart.

5. LBJ is on record for knowing what a disaster Vietnam would be
yet he approved escalating that war and costing the country nearly half the death toll. One of the great questions of history is why he did it, since he knew it was a mistake and he knew what the outcome would be.

Was that the price the right exacted for civil rights legislation?

10. He was a man of contradictions. His domestic policies were
much to be admired, but the war was a tragedy. He was able to show compassion, but he was also capable of over the top ugliness.

I know he was conflicted. He knew he was trapped, He knew he was making a big mistake, but lacked the courage to withdraw.

He never acted like the war was a game, or claimed the war was in any way romantic.

13. Democrats were forced into a terrible position by the right in terms of fighting Communism.
To remain viable, they had to be uncomfortably hawkish.

9. How dare you or anyone compare LBJ and Bush?
Edited on Sun Mar-23-08 01:38 PM by sallyseven
LBJ was instrumental in passing a lot of legislation to better the lot of poor and black people. He advanced education and and affirmative action. You Obama snots should remember that there is a lot history and some very good history before your god Obama came on the scene. Of course because we are old we do not count according to him. "old politics" "typical white woman" bull shit. War is not the be all and end all of life. He inherited the war and because shit heads say we will not lose he was cornered. Listen to the men your going to put in the white house. Both Obama and McSlain are dying to get into Iran so that the war will not be lost. Listen to Obama carefully he is lying to you. Plausibility denial.

11. You missed the point of the cartoon. LBJ felt deeply the cost of war.
bush went dancing and acted the buffoon. LBJ would not have gone to a birthday party while New Orleans was drowning. LBJ was a flawed man, but at least he knew and understood the consequences of his action. He was also able to show and feel real emotion.

By comparing, he was showing the contrast between the two men.

14. You seem to have some sort of unhealthy obsession.
This cartoon has nothing to do with Obama.

By the way, it's CONTRASTING Bush and LBJ, not comparing them.

I'd like to read up on Obama's desire to go into Iran. Thanks.

please take it to the GDP.
