After all, aren't 51 out of 100 of the top citizens of the world also corporations? Must be, they have more rights than us so they should be more valuable.

7. Yep,
However I would like to stress that they are super citizens as technically they have more rights than we 'common' folk. I wonder if they have more rights than a president?

24. Please don't forget, not only are they "super" they are immortal...
incorporation papers say "in perpetuity"...they are immortal super citizens. Amassing wealth, influence and power we mere mortals can barely imagine. Hardly what the founders envisioned but definitely what we have.

5. The Golden State
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Economy_of_California#Gross_domestic_product_.28GDP.29

The economy of California is often cited for how it would compare to other countries if California was an independent nation. The statistic quoted varies widely (usually placing California between 7th and 10th)<10><11><12>, depending on the source.

$1,700,000,000 ($1.7 trillion if I got the 0's wrong;)

It is in rapid decline and most Californians don't seem to notice...

23. new competition- China, Brazil, Germany
kind of hard to compete with

China- land of our former factories and lots more people
Brazil- more people and bigger
Germany- wasn't a unified country until the 1990s...fine German engineering

I think we are holding our own, given the horrid mismanagement from on high (both state and federal). We are still a huge producer/exporter of agricultural products.

Reason I ask, I'm kinda surprised Verizon and Microslop didn't make the cut.

Ed: Never mind. I checked the link. The figures are from July 2000. Verizon was still GTE and NYNEX then.

many of the governments on the list. They let the government do the roads, schools, bridges that support their 'way of life'.

17. They always exclude this VITAL point when they gripe about everything
If it were not for the 1100 bases we have overseas, their market entry overseas and access to
resources would be diminished considerably. Of course, they can't mention this fact since it's
vital to their survival. Who mans the bases? Who pays? The very people they screw day in and
day out by installing their minions like Bush-Cheney who deny the people reasonable return on their
labor and taxes.

Nice deal for them but their ingratitude and short sightedness is stunning.

who never profited from their greed.

We are nothing but Cogswell's Cogs and Spacely Sprockets. The Jetson Era looked like it was going to be so much more fun...

It's hell on Earth, and we are owned by a money grubbing slave trade. Can we take back our "liberty and freedom" yet?

which are often much less answerable to their supposed constituents.

But the link to the Report is broken. I went to the Institute for Policy Studies to check for it and couldn't readily find one that worked . . .

Also, note that the Report was released in 2000 -- what's happened since then?

What a deal, huh. Wonder if you took California plus their corporations, what the ran would be?
We better hope that they don't leave;)
