So.....what is the objective in Iraq?
Edited on Mon Mar-24-08 11:04 PM by Angry Mollusk
Lets see- 4,000 dead US soldiers- Over 100,000 dead Iraqis. No 9/11 connection. No wmd. No threat from Saddam, a former US puppet.
Bush in a typical Orwellian twist asserts the 4000 dead soldiers died 'for peace'. (They died for NOTHING)
Bush and his followers assert the war cannot end until we defeat terrorism.
Terrorism is a TACTIC of fighting, not a defined group of people- and of course Iraqis will want to defend their land from a foreign army-and will thus take up arms (and be labeled 'terrorists)
Remind me again- What is the objective???
Bush asserts we must stay until we win- how do we win when there is no clearly defined objective?

END THE WAR TODAY!!!

1. IMO
and based on what I read in The Shock Doctrine, I think it has much more to do with economics than terrorism. There is terrorism in many other parts of the world, but we aren't occupying their land. Pakistan for example, one of our allies, so we turn a blind eye to their evils. The Saudis are another example.

Just my take on it.

4. Are there really people dumb enough to think the Iraqis could invade us?
The argument 'we need to fight them there so they don't follow us here' was such an absurd argument the Bushies have made- it's hard to believe people buy that bullsh*t...

5. Plenty of people buy that shit
as stupid as it is. It is one of the lines that makes me the maddest. It plays on peoples fears, and that is wrong IMO.

8. I personally know people who believe that
One of them is a physician friend who is not dumb. He said that the war is necessary to prevent another 9/11.
I know, it makes no sense, they were Saudis...but still that's their thinking.

6. I think it's a warning to the rest of the Middle East, that if you
fuck with us, we'll kill as many of your people as we please, completely destroy your infrastructure and your government.

We will NOT have a plan B.

We will just destroy you. For as long as we want to.

and we're still looking for a seven foot tall Arab who lives in caves and just happens to be tethered to a kidney dialysis machine. It's hard work. :sarcasm:
Maybe we'll find him when we have drained the region of all its oil.

12. A soldier I spoke to the other day told me it was to "make the country better"
Edited on Tue Mar-25-08 06:32 AM by MiniMe
I talked to him for a while, he started the conversation. It was the day of the 5th anniversery of the war. I almost fell over at that answer. My point was that we never should have gone in the first place, there were no WMD, no connection to 9-11. He told me that wasn't why we went to war, and then gave me that answer. I told him that things weren't better, no water, no electricity, 100,000 dead Iraqi's not to mention the almost (at that time) 4,000 dead soldiers. He said that I was wrong, that things were much better. They had more electricity than they did under Saddam, and things were much better. He was just a kid, said he had been part of Falluja. I was all a calm discussion, he was a nice kid, just brainwashed. I left after those comments, and I left much sadder. To think that a kid thinks that "making the country better" is a reason to go to war is just wrong on so many levels.

Edited to add: I did ask him what the mission was. And it was the same answer, to make the country better. An even sadder answer.
