1. Yep.
I drive a small car that gets good mileage, so it does not usually hit me too hard.

However, I had to loan my car to my daughter for awhile when hers was in the shop. I used my husband's pickup. It cost me fifty bucks to fill the tank. What a shock.

4. Even if you don't have a car, these prices will cause Everything to cost much more
That $4.50 a gallon for diesel fuel, that is an economy killer.

and how about Jet fuel?

Impact on this year's fuel bill of the global airline industry:

New fuel price average for 2008 $116.4/billion
Impact on 2008 fuel bill +$50 billion

5. Hell, at the local airport a month ago...
100-octane low-lead aviation gas was 3.99 a gallon!

Won't work in a car because the lead would gum up the system, but stil.... 100 octane!!!

It's 2.99 a gallon for 87 here on the frozen tundra

6. What amazes me is...
That the average one-fodder-unit just accepts this and goes upon his or her merry way.

"Well, what can IIIII do? I'm just one PERson!"

Try getting angry and getting off your dead ass from in front to the 3 Jillionth episode of "American Idol". Paula Abdul ain't gonna fix shit for you. You gotta give a damn and take the bit in your mouth and get loud.

7. My Father-in-law sent me this email ,yesterday, on how to lower fuel prices...
THIS IS NOT THE 'DON'T BUY' GAS FOR ONE DAY, BUT IT WILL SHOW YOU
HOW WE CAN GET GAS BACK DOWN TO $1.30 PER GALLON.

This was sent by a retired Coca Cola executive. It came from one of
his engineer buddies who retired from Halliburton. If you are tired
of the gas prices going up AND they will continue to rise this summer,
take time to read this please.

Phillip Hollsworth offered this good idea.

This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the 'don't buy gas on a certain day'
campaign that was going around last April or May!

It's worth your consideration. Join the resistance!!!!

I hear we are going to hit close to $ 4.00 a gallon by next summer
and it might go higher!! Want gasoline prices to come down?

We need to take some intelligent, united action. The oil companies
just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't continue to 'hurt'
ourselves by refusing to buy gas.

It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them.

BUT, whoever thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that can
Really work. Please read on and join with us!

By now you're probably thinking gasoline priced at about $2.00 is
super cheap. Me too! It is currently $2.98 for regular unleaded in my town.

Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us
to think that the cost of a gallon of gas is CHEAP at $ 1.50 - $1.75, we
need to take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the
marketplace. . .not sellers.

With the price of gasoline going up more each day, we consumers need
to take action.

The only way we are going to see the price of gas c o me down is if
we hit someone in the pocketbook by not purchasin g their gas! And, we
can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves.

How? Since we all rely on our cars, we can't just stop buying gas.

But we CAN have an impact on gas prices if we all act together to
force a price war.
Here's the idea: For the rest of this year, DON'T purchase ANY
gasoline from the two biggest companies (which now are one), EXXON and MOBIL.

If they are not selling any gas, they will be inclined to reduce
their prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to
follow suit.

But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of Exxon
and Mobil gas buyers. It's really simple to do! Now, don't wimp out on me
at this point...keep reading and I'll explain how simple it is to
reach millions of people!!

I am sending this note to 30 people. If each of us send it to at
least ten more (30 x 10 = 300) .. and those 300 send it to at least ten
more(300 x 10 = 3,000) ...and so on, by the time the message reaches the
sixth group of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION
consumers.

If those three million get excited and pass this on to ten friends
each, then 30 million people will have been contacted!

If it goes one level further, you guessed it..... THREE HUNDRED
MILLION PEOPLE!!!

Again, all you have to do is send this to 10 people. That's all!

(If you don't understand how we can reach 300 million and all you
have to do is send this to 10 people.... Well, let's face it, you just
aren't a mathematician. But I am. So trust me on this one.

How long would all that take? If each of us sends this e-mail out to
ten more people within one day of receipt, all 300 MILLION people
could conceivably be contacted within the nex t 8 days!!!

I'll bet you didn't think you and I had that much potential, did you!

Acting together we can make a difference.
If this makes sense to you, please pass this message on. I suggest
that we not buy from EXXON/MOBIL UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO THE
$2.00 RANGE AND KEEP THEM DOWN. THIS CAN REALLY WORK.

8. According to Snopes this has been making the rounds since '06 and is False.

Link: http://www.snopes.com/politics/gasoline/gasout.asp

"The only practical way of reducing gasoline prices is through the straightforward means of buying less gasoline, not through a simple and painless scheme of just shifting where we buy it. The inconvenience of driving less is a hardship too many people apparently aren't willing to endure, however.

9. Not buying gas for a day won't help
if people don't stop driving. Eventually if people are driving they will need to buy gas. If people are serious they should car pool or take public transportation for a day ... a day/week ... as many days as they can. And that's what people are doing.

10. Some Gas-saving Ideas...
1. Buy local; don't order stuff by mail.

No matter what the cost is, delivery of the stuff uses fuel, and it takes away a job from a local kid working at Blockbuster (or whatever).

2. Use public transportation, car-pool, ride a bike or walk.

Also, count the number of miles you go every week, and challenge yourself to combine trips or put something off until you can do several things in one trip.

3. Conserve electricity!

I am sure there are more, but I defer that to the other wise minds on DU.

12. I can't join that one because I'm one of the few holdouts who still refuses to buy Exxon
because of the way they handled the Exxon Valdez spill. When they acquired Mobil (yes, they are now the same company), I sent my gas card back to Mobil and have refused to buy gas there. In other words, they aren't going to notice if I'm not filling up there.

11. Thanks for reminding me
I feel somewhat conflicted about this, as I know that our dependence on oil must begin to be weaned and these huge prices will speed that (though painfully for so many people in the interim - especially people living on the edge of poverty) but I also know that McCain will continue the addiction unabated, so I will use this politically and I do believe it's time to print up some appropriate stickers to place on the pumps. Call it a public service message.

Something like, "Like This?: Vote McCain. He promises to continue the policies that will keep you paying at the pump." Or another one would be two pictures, one with Dubya snuggling with a Saudi and then a picture of McCain snuggling with Dubya. The slogan would be something like "Four more years of this? Well, then, vote McCain. He promises to continue Bush's policies" Another: "Four More Wars? Can we really afford that? McCain, same as Bush, only older."

We can't rely on our broken media. It's time for guerrilla tactics.

Call it a variation on highway blogging. I suppose you could call it vandalism. But what they are doing to us is called robbery, so a little vandalism for the cause is acceptable to me.
