Cheney: Obama and Clinton are ‘wannabes.’ |
|
Cheney: Obama and Clinton are ‘wannabes.’ In an interview with ABC News yesterday, Vice President Dick Cheney asserted that President Bush “carries the biggest burden” of the Iraq war and even compared staying the course in Iraq to the pardoning of President Nixon. But Cheney also took time out to insult Sens. Barack Obama (D-IL) and Hillary Clinton (D-NY) for “announc that the solution in Iraq is to withdraw,” calling them “wannabes.”

5. Yes, but remember Cheney was part of Nixon's corrupt circle. |
|
So from his point of view (his very warped point of view) it was the right thing.

6. Agreed- the whole "best for the nation" meme was regurgitated ad infinitum... |

during the Gerald Ford eulogies last year.
IMO, what the nation truly needed was not to "get beyond" the myriad crimes of the Nixon administration, but rather to have a full accounting and punishment. Sure it would have been painful to witness, but at least then, there would have been *consequences,* and we, as a nation, would have seen that truly even the president was subject to the laws of this country.
Instead, the lesson that the surviving members of that misadministration took away was that the problem was getting caught, and subsequently admitting to wrongdoing. Their overriding pernicious secrecy and obstinate refusals to admit wrongdoing in even blatantly obvious acts is the direct and, in retrospect, completely predictable result.
We're still paying the price, and likely will for another generation at least, for Gerald Ford's choice to prematurely end the Watergate investigations.

an incestuous circle of thugs....and as long as "healing" (more like heeling) is the cry of the day...that circle will never be broken.
