Come the revolution...

"God forbid we should ever be twenty years without such a rebellion. The people cannot be all, and always, well informed. The part which is wrong will be discontented, in proportion to the importance of the facts they misconceive. If they remain quiet under such misconceptions, it is lethargy, the forerunner of death to the public liberty.

Modern technology has armed the forces of oppression to degrees that surpass understanding. But be reassured. With every increased measure of oppression, the pressure for change grows exponentially in reaction.

Have faith that the rear guard actions of the system will eventually cause it to crumble in a sudden and spectacular ways.
... And what country can preserve its liberties, if it's rulers are not warned from time to time, that this people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms." Thomas Jefferson

But be reassured. With every increased measure of oppression, the pressure for change grows exponentially in reaction. Have faith that the rear guard actions of the system will eventually cause it to crumble in a sudden and spectacular ways. The future will be the property of the people, as Jefferson understood.

4. A revolution?
You've got to be kidding me. Things aren't THAT bad, and a revolution would make things much worse.

only thing that makes sense.

only other possibility is that you are in denial about how the powers that be are manipulating this election to give the whitehouse to McCain.

13. I am liberal but no longer trust the democratic party.
they had way too many opportunities to make a stand only to lay down and play dead the moment the repukes made even the slightest hint that they might say something that makes people actually think they have a backbone.

7. Revolution certainly improved things in China and the USSR
I'm sure it can do even greater things here in America.

12. I hope it doesn't come to armed revolt.
I hope. But I don't know. And then I thought to myself, these elites, what do they do? They spend ridiculous amounts of money and live in luxury. They don't get blood under their manicured fingernails. They don't trouble their ears with the screams of hopeless people. They're not the ones who do the killing, they just sit back and profit from it. Why are ordinary people willing to kill for the benefit of the elites? So then I thought, okay, let's look at the entire system. What does it do to harm people? 3 main things, I think:
-Economic warfare (Controlling resources and denying them to people who need them) This the elites can do on their own.
-Actual murder (War, assassinations, etc.) This the elites need to hire other people to do for them.
-Unnecessary restrictions on liberty in society. This requires the cooperation or at least the obedience of the majority.

But then, don't they all require the obedience of the majority? Well, maybe not the murder part. It only takes one person to fire a gun. But the economic warfare and the restrictions of liberty: Where do the elites get the power to do these things? They get the power from the people. You can't get rich paying people slave wages if no one is willing to buy the resulting product. So I came to the conclusion that whatever you want to call it- The Man, the Combine, whatever the name- isn't a system run by a few elites, but rather a conglomerate that more of us that we would like to admit are contributing to.

So then the question became, not "How do I fight the system?" but "How do I stop contributing to the harmful effects of the system?", and if I, an anti-authoritarian, was contributing to the authoritarian system out of lack of knowledge of a better way, maybe there were others like me, many of them, who would stop contributing to the system if they knew of a better way.

And it's not as simple as elites vs. the majority when the majority is willing to kill when ordered to by the elites, willing to buy what is essentially stolen from the hands of the people who produce it, and ready to, out of fear and mob mentality, destroy that which they see as different and thus threatening, thus contributing to the unnecessary restrictions on liberty. We can't entirely blame management for this one, folks. Governments and corporations manage the world, and let's be honest. Management has been terrible. But we have to STOP HELPING THEM. In addition to Exxon and Wal-Mart and BushCo, our enemies include Milgram-type obedience, lack of creativity, and a fear of the unknown. But maybe the biggest enemy of all is a tendency to blame on a few elites a system which so many help to perpetuate.
