If you haven't seen the movie Rendition yet, please do.

The story is about an Egyptian born US citizen who is picked up mistakenly and handed over to a middle east country that brutally tortures him.

It was a shock to the soul to see a dramatization of the actual rendition, hoods, secret prisons, private torture planes and all.

It was mind-numbingly infuriating to see how the US officials played politics above the constitution. Meryl Streep as the a senior spook is magnificently evil and depraved.

But the film is outstanding to me because of the incredible job it does in pulling back the curtain on the reality of middle eastern country's problems with terrorism and radicalism. I cannot vouch for the complete accuracy of the depiction, but it seemed quite accurate to me.

I won't get into the details so as not to spoil it for anyone, but please go rent it. WARNING: It is not an easy film to watch.

2. You are so right!
We watched it a couple weeks ago, and I couldn't watch some parts of it. Everyone should see this movie. Another movie that is very powerful is "The Valley of Elah" with Tommy Lee Jones, Susan Sarandon and Charlize Theron.

No wonder the world hates us.

6. You really *MUST* see this movie. Here's Roger Ebert's review of it...

This is being done in our name. People who are suspected
for any reason, or no good reason, of being terrorists
can be snatched from their lives and transported to
another country to be held without charge and tortured
for information. Because the torture is conducted by
professionals in those countries, our officials can
blandly state that "America does not torture." This
practice, known as an "extraordinary rendition," was
authorized, I am sorry to say, under the Clinton
administration. After 9/11, there is reason to believe
the Bush administration uses it frequently.

8. I agree. The actor whose character was "renditioned" was
especially excellent. And, yes, while I adore Streep, her acting had me ready to throttle her... She was spot on.

10. In our name.
I will not be seeing it,but I believe it should be run instead of American Idol just once.Maybe someone should send Oprah a copy. It's frightening what they're capable of.Yet they have the unmitigated gall to proclaim we do not torture.Uh-huh.K & R
