Olbermann Counting Up...Happy At Last
Don't forget to set your TiVos for Sunday evening's special NBC Countdown!

http://www.mediabistro.com/tvnewser/msnbc/olbermann_counting_uphappy_at_last_80762.asp?c=rss

Five years later, Keith "Take This Job and Shove It" Olbermann is still — dare we say it? — happy at MSNBC.

In fact, when Olbermann marks the milestone with a special Countdown on NBC Sunday, he will be just six months away from breaking his personal record of continuous employment in the same Zip code: 5 1/2 years at ESPN in the '90s.

Given that he re-upped last year through 2011, those are good odds.

"I had the opportunity to go somewhere else and I stayed put. It's the first time I had actually done that," says Olbermann, 49, known for a short fuse and a long memory.

"I have found circumstances that please me on various levels. It used to be that when I arrived at work, my first thought was, 'How in the hell do I get out of this?'"

Countdown's 7pm ET/PT special is the show's second shot on the mothership. Among the highlights: Olbermann will "reveal" the 'Commander in chief threshold test' to which Sen. Hillary Clinton has referred. (Sample question: "Have you ever hosted a failed show on this network?")

2. Since he has turned into a 1hour unpaid Obama campaign ad I quit watching
Edited on Thu Mar-27-08 10:03 AM by ThomWV
And its quite possible I would vote for Obama but the non-stop battering of Senator Clinton is simply unbearable. I turn the show on, listen for 2 minutes and switch channels, I come back 15 minutes later he's still on the same subject, repeating the same lines, interrupting any guest that might be trying to introduce a little civility into the discussion - a discussion that should never have lasted over a minute, if it took place at all.

I'm sick of him.

4. Do you go to bartcop.com?
You will find solace there. I used to love Bartcop but sadly will have to wait to go back there until we have selected a candidate. I miss him but.... just can't take the Hill. Peace, Kim

5. No, but if its the other side of the coin then its just as bad
Its not that I am a Hillary fan, I'm not. Its that the show has turned into a one track hit piece on Clinton. In a time when there are so many things of so much greater importance than the he-said, she-said crap of the primary campaigns its just disgraceful that he is not covering any of those matters. He spends 1 minute calling out FOX, the same amount of time would be appropriate for the Primary coverage. Also, there is a constant complaint that this or that Candidate is doing irreparable damage to the Democratic Party, but the place where you hear the most about it - where they can not simply report on what happened and then move on - is on Keith's show. Its as if he were single handedly trying to badmouth half of the Democratic Party and then complain that badmouthing is bad for the Democratic Party.

I'm sick of it.

6. I feel like he thinks this election is our last shot
to try and turn this country around. IN 2004 he was the only one covering the recount or lack there of in Ohio. What a shock it was to see it on TV. I think that one show covering the news from a different view is necessary. Can't wait until this (s)election is over. I feel your pain. Peace, Kim

8. Ditto. I would be curious to know what it has done to his ratings since we are
obviously far from unique. I turned for 2 minutes during the passport story but he managed to pin even that one on Clinton. What is unfortunate is that it kinda discredits even his "good" bashings, like those of Bush and Cheney, since it lays bare his MO. I thought I would go back to watching him after the primaries are over -- but now I suspect not.

9. I Agree Completely
I've never been a big fan of Hillary, but the fact he's been taking sides so obviously, is a huge turnoff. He's almost becoming "one of them," in terms of being a true media whore in many respects. Covering the "hype" so frequently, it is dull.

There are lots of other angles he could direct his coverage towards, but by continuing to bash Mrs. Clinton, I don't enjoy watching much anymore. His Special Comment a couple of weeks ago, was the first I had missed in months.

By devoting so much time, to this theme against Hillary, there are lots of other stories which can't get covered. I'd be happier with a more balanced approach, but it is what it is. I am not sure whose agenda he's pushing, but by going after the 40-50% of Democrats who STRONGLY support Mr. Obama, he's alienating the others who are either Hillary supporters, or just indifferent, and would prefer to let this play out without attacks and SPIN.

12. While I like and respect Keith I feel the same way
I can't stand the bashing of our Democratic candidates no matter who they might be. I will be happy to vote for whomever wins the nomination and I just don't go for the negative aspects that are so prevalent. To me anyone that engages in that sort of behavior is less than they could be.

You know I watch it, and I don't see the bashing
nor am I a partisan for either of them. since at the policy level there is no light between them.

And yes, he is pointing what many of us have also said.... this is doing damage to the party and the chances of winning in November

Partisans (Both sides) have a problem seeing this... it is BOTH that are damaging the party... whether by commission or omission will be hotly debated by historians.

But at this pace, when WE LOOSE in November, I will blame BOTH

And this week the Tuzla story IS news...

Last week the Pastor story was news.

Damn both were covered and both partisans were screaming...
