Name A Bush Scandal or Screw Up That's Been Forgotten
There's been soooo many disasters with this presidency that it's easy to forget a major screw up. My favorite one that no one talks about is the fact that we haven't caught the Anthrax killer.

Why would Osama bin Laden want to kill Dubya, his former business partner?

12. How many ways can you screw up the economy for years without really trying?
Edited on Thu Mar-27-08 10:37 AM by no_hypocrisy
1. Grant extreme tax cuts for the wealthiest taxpayers temporarily, then make them permanent.

2. Start a war, add another war, get another war ready, and have no funds to finance them.

3. Borrow money from as many countries as you can sucker, knowing you will never be able to pay the interest, let alone principal on those loans.

4. Deregulate the banking industry, knowing there will be speculation and corruption inherent in the system by allowing "free market principles" to carry the day.

5. Bail out the bank industry when it loses its own money (which never really existed because it was credit) with taxpayer dollars (but only with the money of the taxpayers who didn't get much of a tax cut -- See #1).

6. Make the middle class a quaint memory of the past.

7. Make the average homeowner work yet another job without benefits just to pay the property tax on his/her home, if not for the health insurance premiums.

23. There very first lie:
They didn't waste any time...
http://www.fair.org/index.php?page=1689
During the White House transition in January, one story proved irresistible to many conservative pundits: Departing Clinton staffers had gone on a wild rampage and "trashed" or "vandalized" the White House, even looting Air Force One. Allegations of the Clinton aides' reckless destruction of public property swept through the media. For some, the story symbolized the difference between a morally compromised Clinton presidency and a more dignified, honorable Bush administration.

An official government investigation, however, reveals one major problem with these stories: They apparently never happened. According to statements from the General Services Administration that were reported on May 17, little if anything out of the ordinary occurred during the transition, and "the condition of the real property was consistent with what we would expect to encounter when tenants vacate office space after an extended occupancy."

Ironically, the investigation came in response to a request from Rep. Bob Barr (R.-Ga.), and many conservatives who had assumed that the wild rumors would be confirmed by an official inquiry. That wasn't the case. (The "looting" of Air Force One had also been denied months ago by officials at Andrews Air Force base -- Kansas City Star, 2/9/01).

Leading the cry against the trashing of the White House was the Fox News Channel. Virtually every major Fox personality reported it as fact, often expressing their own personal outrage. Guests on the channel chimed in, condemning the Clintons and their staffers. Consider the following reports:

Or his father's either. The LAW is quite specific in that Presidential Papers may be released after eight years have passed from leaving office but must be rel;eased after twelve years have passed. Reagan had been out of office more than twelve years and hios father more than eight years and now more than twelve years. He has yet to release any of those Presidential papers. His whole first Administration was made up of ex Reagan officials

27. There are so many...
...it's hard to pick just one.

But the one that always comes to mind for me is the very first mishap, a tiny one in the scheme of things, but a harbinger of things to come -- and I thought so at the time it occurred.

It happened in the ocean around the Hawaiian Islands, where some privileged civilians were allowed to take the controls of a submarine, with the end result of a sudden ascent to the surface, crashing into a Japanese fishing boat that had students aboard, several of whom were killed.

And the result of that? The submarine captain had to resign in disgrace, for permitting something that he was probably required to do. The US government issued an apology to the Japanese government (they *did* apologize, didn't they? it's all such a blue). And the civilians onboard the submarine were never identified -- it would probably annoy the rest of us to know just who these privileged sorts are who get to go on joy rides aboard US military submarines.

This incident encapsulated for me exactly what the Bush regime is all about, and about how they never plan for worst cases up front, and never have to pay for them when they occur.

30. Just before the 2004 election...
A news crew found that a warehouse keeping tons and tons of explosives was NEVER secured or guarded by the military. At the time, it was reported THAT was possibly the source of the explosives for the insurgents' IEDs. Chimpy's failed war planning called for securing the oil ministry and oil fields, pretty much to the exclusion of everything else.

Their lust for oil directly caused the death of every troop killed by an IED. Fucking bastards. The whole story was killed before election day, and has never been whispered about since.

31. Labor Secretary Elaine Chao, co-owner of an insurance subsidiary with Chinese intelligence
http://www.worldnetdaily.com/index.php?pageId=7869

Senate financial-disclosure records show that, over the past four years, Chao has held a seat on the board of Protective Life Corp., which owns 50 percent of CRC Protective Life Insurance. Lippo co-owns the rest of the Hong Kong-based unit with China Resources Holdings Co., an intelligence-gathering front company for China's People's Liberation Army.

Chao owns more than 7,000 shares of Birmingham, Ala.-based Protective Life Corp., public securities records show.

Odd that Lippo was also front-and-center in the Buddhist nun "scandal" that the media pinned on Al Gore.

38. A disaster 25 times the size of the Exxon Valdez spill.
I had never seen anything so corrupt and lawless in my entire career as what I saw regarding interference with a federal investigation of the most serious environmental disaster in the history of the Eastern United States,” says Spadaro.

“I've been in government since Richard Nixon. I've been through the Reagan administration, Carter and Clinton. I've never seen anything like this.”

What he's talking about is what he calls a government cover-up of an investigation into a disaster 25 times the size of the Exxon Valdez spill.

It happened in October of 2000, when 300 million gallons of coal slurry - thick pudding-like waste from mining operations - flooded land, polluted rivers and destroyed property in Eastern Kentucky and West Virginia. The slurry contained hazardous chemicals, including arsenic and mercury.

48. The One That Started It All:
Apologizing to the Chinese when they caused one of our spy planes to crash. There are a couple of modifiers to this fiasco as well:

1) Claiming that they did not actually apologize
2) Waiting long enough for China to reverse engineer the plane before they did the deed.
