Officials: Deputy Shocks Girl, 11, With Taser At Elementary School
ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- An Orange County sheriff's deputy on Thursday shocked an 11-year-old girl with a Taser gun at an elementary school after the girl punched her in the face, authorities said.

According to the Orange County Sheriff's Office, the girl, identified as Thaliamar Jiminez by Local 6 News, pushed another student into oncoming traffic, and the student who was pushed reported the incident to a teacher.

The homeroom teacher also tried to talk to Jiminez, who became agitated and began to shove her desk and chair, Orange County sheriff's deputies said. Jiminez was asked to go to the office but refused and yelled and spit at the teachers, deputies said.

The school resource officer, Orange County sheriff's Deputy Donna Hudepohl was called to remove Jiminez, who pushed Hudepohl and punched her in the face, causing her nose to bleed, according to the sheriff's office.

2. Sounds like the kids I tried to teach
That's why I'm not teaching anymore--no combat pay.

I was thinking that, too.
Once, an irate student threw a desk at me. He missed, but it was still a wake-up call. I wonder where he is now.

3. Florida again
The people there seem to have a particular difficulty dealing with their kids... rationally.

4. What a delightful cherub of a girl.
While I can't accept the idea of tasering an 11 year old girl, she seems like quite the little monster. Wonder what her parents are like?

6. Agreed Against The Taser
But I don't see where rationality gets you, either, with a kid that wild.

10. I wonder that, too.
As in what are the parents doing to this child to make her act out like she is.

Want to bet she ends up pregnant before she's 12? And has never been out with a boy.

5. Little monster. Where do these kids get this crap?
Pushing another kid into oncoming traffic.

Too bad it was just a Taser.

8. Anyone doesn't like it can put their kid curbside...
in front of Tanqueray (or whatever the little shit's name is).

Then they can get back to me later.

17. Whoa, Tommy.....
That doesn't sound like you. I've been near school bus stops and seen this behavior done in a kidding fashion. I don't LIKE it, but it wasn't like she shoved someone off a subway platform while a train was arriving. Gotta disagree and extend the benefit of the doubt here...

19. Well....
as a parent, I get a bit worked up about that kind of business (although my 'kids' are now in their mid-twenties).

I had also spent the evening in the studio and that was about the first thing I saw, today. Eight hours in headphones and my brain strongly resembled that last lone french fry in that vat of boiling oil.

But the songs were strong.

9. If you can't take a punch from an 11 year old girl, you don't belong on the police force.
This person needs to be fired. There's no excuse for tasering children.

11. I think I could take an 11 yr old girl.
Yep, pretty sure I wouldn't have to use a weapon, either.

If I were that Deputy, I'd rethink my choice of profession if I was too scared to fight an 11 yr old little girl without using a weapon. Maybe you suck at being a cop, eh Deputy?

12. They hired the work person
I have been working with this population, both children and ADULTS, for over 10 years. NEVER have I had resort to anything like this.

I just moved to Florida from NY. No, I had no trouble finding a job here. I actually turned down 3 offers.

You read between the lines.

13. If I acted like Thaliamar did, my mother would've whupped my ass, but the officer overreacted.
Unless the 11 year-old was as big as this female officer or is close to the female officer's size, I don't see how tasering should be used as opposed to an old-fashioned take-down.

They both need anger management.

14. Doesn't the risk of physical injury *increase* with physical contact...
especially if there is a significant difference in size and weight between the officer and the suspect?

18. I think not....
Have you never had to subdue a child? Think two year old kicking, screaming and hitting. Now think about having a taser while doing this. My feeling is that 2 people threw a tantrum, one because they were a child and the other because they were a fascist.
