Pentagon: Inventory ordered of all U.S. nukes = WTF ???
Edited on Thu Mar-27-08 03:49 PM by spanone
we have unaccounted for WMDs ???

~snip~
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Defense Secretary Robert Gates has formally ordered the Air Force, Navy and Defense Logistics Agency to conduct an inventory of all U.S. nuclear weapons and nuclear weapon-related materials to make sure all items are accounted for, according to a Pentagon memo released Thursday.

Defense Secretary Robert Gates orders an inventory of all U.S. nuclear weapons and related materials.

The order comes in the wake of the discovery last week that four nuclear warhead fuses were accidentally shipped to Taiwan in 2006.

1. Sounds like a prudent move
How else would you ensure nothing else is missing or misplaced?

After all, this here's the bush administration!

Okay...who hasn't had any nuclear weapons technology accidently shipped to them by the U.S. government in the past week?

:hi:

4. The fuse technology is what others lack and make it so hard to detonate a nuke.
Loosing them is a HUGE HUGE problem. You can build a nuke with the right material but detonating it is another matter.

6. I wonder if they will find those pesky hard drives and e-mails
I bet some nukes show up in some strange basements and warehouses of the government.
I don't trust Gates or the Pentagon that much any more.

18. There is no doubt that such places exist.
Don't forget the warehouse where they got the nukes mixed up.

I can't wait for the New Indiana Jones movie this spring.

17. what bothers me
is the DoD is the one agency that I would think would have been as affected by the influx of bushidiots. Oh, the clowns like rummy and feith certainly fucked up strategy and tactics for specific operations, but as far as day-to-day operations, things like procurement, inventory, maintenance, training, etc., the military had pretty well-defined SOPs that should not have evaporated. Does a career military person say "well, there are idiots at the helm now, so I think I'll just get sloppy"? Mistakenly shipping live nukes a few months back, now this... just how deep is the penetration of shit-for-brains syndrome, anyway?

9. Does anybody think that Gates might be one of the good guys?
Is it just possible that he might be the savior that will prevent this asinine Administration from launching an attack on Iran? Hmmmm Reading between the lines, that just could be

12. We have had at least two
signs that there may be internal government moves to shift a nuke or two toward the Iran crisis, the stuff of potboiler novels as far as speculation, and where every other thing like a routine check of inventory seems to fit the story. Cheney has done more to actively promote proliferation(among unfriendlies) than anyone I can think of and "retaliatory" use of our nuclear muscle is also on their 'to do" list.

There are many crying reasons why Cheney must go, but this mere speculation weighs more than most of them.

15. Hmmm I suspect this is done all the time
but not just publicly...

Could it be because of the Minot AFB incident? (Was it five or six nukes, we really don't know)

Or the we sent nuclear triggers to Korea?

They wanted chopper batteries by the way.

Let's do the inspections to soothe the frayed nerves of China. But I've long said it's not Iraq that needs weapons inspections. It's us!
