Traveler says she was forced to remove nipple ring
"A Texas woman who said she was forced to remove a nipple ring with pliers in order to board an airplane called Thursday for an apology by federal security agents and a civil rights investigation."

"She said she heard male TSA agents snickering as she took out the ring. She was scanned again and was allowed to board even though she still was wearing a belly button ring."

"After nipple rings are inserted, the skin can often heal around the piercing, and the rings can be extremely difficult and painful to remove,"

http://www.cnn.com/2008/US/03/27/nipple.ring.ap/index.html

This is insane. If this lady must remove her nipple rings to get on a plane...but a belly button ring is ok...where's the logic?

I'm not sure if I feel more angry or sad...
:wtf:

5. Increases sensation, so I'm told
IMO, Nobody's beeswax tho if someone has one. All they needed to do was have a same-sex guard check her out, given how hard most of that jewelery is to remove, I'm sure itdoesn't make a very good weapon.

Ooh, put down that nipple ring, somebody might get hurt!

attract cosmic rays at high altitudes.

13. Lawyer, Gloria Alright.."A nipple ring is not a dangerous weapon", soundbite just now on my local
NBC morning news. They also had the woman demonstrate what she had to do to take the nipple ring off of her using a bra form, with a bra.

I am glad, pardon the pun, that it is getting national exposure.

14. How are we safer when the people in charge of security are this
FUCKING IGNORANT?!! These people are more qualified to handle a mop then they are to handle security at a major airport.

15. They obviously wanted to see her nipple and watch her take it out.
That's why they didn't care about the belly button ring and that's why they were snickering. I know some of you "just can't grasp" the concept of piercings and assume that a woman who has one is a "certain type" who would be less humiliated by a gang of authoritarian men forcing her to touch her nipples in public than say... your college aged daughter. But when was the last time you saw your college aged daughter's nipples? Yeah, I didn't think so.

This is sexual abuse by authorities.

18. Screening was handled properly?
"In response to her complaint, TSA's customer service manager in Lubbock concluded the screening was handled properly, Allred said."

:wtf:

This sounds like a slam-dunk lawsuit.

19. Agree. Most of the TSA rules are insane.
Let's not forget how banning the following made travel safer:

* eye lash curlers
* tweezers
* Swiss Army pen knives on your key ring

Symbolism over substance for the masses. Can you imagine Franz Kafka writing about airline travel?
