Bedtime wisdom from Noam Chomsky:
Any dictator would admire the uniformity and obedience of the U.S. media.

The United States is unusual among the industrial democracies in the rigidity of the system of ideological control - "indoctrination," we might say - exercised through the mass media.

In this possibly terminal phase of human existence, democracy and freedom are more than just ideals to be valued - they may be essential to survival.

1. Thanks!
I was immediately interested in Chomsky when I first encountered him in my undergraduate Psychology course work a very long time ago. Back then the topic was the relationship of language to cognition.

4. I had a class in which the instructor put us through some basic exercises
in Transformational Grammar. I wasn't very good at it, but thought it definitely interesting. I also happened to have been interested in the Absurdists at about that time (dual major Psych & Lit) and experimenting with Deconstruction in my crit classes. Fun!
