Internet sources revealed docs last week showing Aretha Franklin is reportedly facing foreclosure on her Michigan home, for approximately $19,000 in backed taxes. (See, Aretha, you should've backed the presidential candidate that wanted to abolish the IRS! Ahem, ahem!) PETA has been stepping up their anti-fur protests - yesterday, we posted an article on their new video game blasting clothing giant Burberry for using fur. And now, Ingrid Newkirk with People For The Ethical Treatment Of Animals is making a gutsy and generous move: PETA is offering to pay Aretha Franklin's $19k in taxes and save the Michigan home, if Aretha will promise to stop wearing fur.
PETA posted in their blog yesterday, Well, despite the fact that we've had the occasional run-in with the Queen of Soul, we're willing to bury the hatchet and even help her out of her recent financial troubles by paying her $19,000...provided that she agrees to stop wearing fur and donate her unwanted furs to PETA as Mariah Carey and Kim Cattrall have done.
Mariah Carey did that? Go Mariah! I think Aretha should go for it. What would it hurt, ReRe, to go faux? This is a win-win! Take it!

Detroit, MI (CNS) - The animal rights activists group People For The Ethical Treatment Of Animals (PETA) have offered to pay the queen of soul's $19,000 tax bill if she agrees to stop wearing fur.
Ingrid Newkirk, the president of the group, has written to Franklin and offered to help the soul legend avoid foreclosure on her Detroit mansion if Franklin hands over her collection of fur coats.
In the letter from to Franklin, Newkirk writes, "We would like to help you out by paying the approximate $19,000 in back taxes that you owe- if you'll agree to save animals from hideous suffering and death by promising never to wear fur again and donating your old furs to PETA."
She concludes the letter by writing, "Our offer is a win-win situation: You get to keep your home, and animals get to keep their lives. We are rooting for you to please give animals the R-E-S-P-E-C-T that they deserve by giving up fur."
PETA has reportedly been trying for months to get Franklin to give up her extensive collection of famous fur coats. Franklin has until March 31 to pay her debt and save her home.
