Do You Have a Good Sense of Humor? Take the Quiz

Take the quiz here:
http://www.carlarieger.com/free_materials/articles/?article=Do_You_Have_a_Good_Sense_of_Humor?_Take_the_Quiz&article_id=13

By:Carla Rieger

Plato once said that “Life was meant to be lived as play.” When I ask audience members if they have a sense of humor, I usually get 25 per cent of the group raising their hands. Yet, when I tell a joke, most of the audience laughs. I’d like to expand your understanding of yourself and humor. Underneath the word PLAYFULNESS are more specific terms such as humor and fun. Humor is the ability to give laughter or be the instigator of playfulness. This is the more yang, or masculine principle. Fun, on the other hand, is the ability to receive laughter. This is the more yin, or feminine, principle of playfulness. A useful metaphor may be that humor is the plug, and fun is the socket. The ability to be playful with life is to have both. Some people are good at receiving laughter; they can laugh at jokes or irony, but rarely express humor themselves. These people have a good sense of fun. Conversely, some people use humor often to instill laughter in others, yet may not be able to laugh themselves. Several professional comedians fall into this category. They have a good sense of humor, but not a good sense of fun. The ideal is to have both.

What Are Your Attitudes Towards Humor?

Before building on your sense of humor, it is important to do a personal attitude inventory.

Read each statement and think about how often this is true for you…

Total Score = ______________

Results

If your score was 117 or more, your attitude towards fun is a model for the rest of us.

If your score was 90-116, you are human. We all carry some negativity.
You are still on your way towards a more joyous life. This book can help enhance that.

If your score was 63-115, your attitudes often repel wonderful, fun moments.
Practicing new behaviors outlined in here, will help you re-write your inner script around fun.

If your score was under 62, you definitely need some help. But that's okay, there is lots of help available.
And, each moment is an opportunity for making new choices.

Are you losing your sense of humor? Find out if you have one OR still have one. ;)
Have you noticed lately that people aren't laughing as much? That they are all just to serious?
I know the news hasn't been good lately... actually in the last seven and a half years but have
you noticed lately that people seem a lot more intense and react very seriously, even to small jokes?
If so, maybe they've lost their sense of humor or maybe you have. Take the test and find out.

Here's a smaller quicker quiz than the one above.

It's to bad he doesn't have it as an interactive quiz but you
can take the one at the bottom. That only asks 4 questions! :P

Maybe you'll have time later on. :hi:

I scored 118

Interesting exercise. Attending a conference soon and always looking for things to get people relaxed and interacting. This might be a good item!

:D

My sister liked having these type of seminars for her employee's.
She said it helped 'open communication' for the different working groups.
It might be fun! The writer is also a stand up comedian.

34. Your sister and me would make a great motivational team
There is little that a bit of laughter and a dose of positive nonsense can't make better. Communication within a group is ALWAYS better with a facilitator who can get others to laugh and also be candid about them self to the point of playing the fool just a bit to get people to drop some of their defenses.

Work places that allow for a bit of playfulness are healthier and more productive. Workplaces that make the effort to INSPIRE playfulness are usually the tops in their fields. Creativity requires the ability to play. Problems aren't solved without creativity.

It's WIN/WIN. Make a little fun at work every day and people do better. When your people do better, the business does better! Happy people are creative problem solvers. Creative problem solving makes happier customers AND workers.

Life is too short to be drudgery!

4. Contrary to what some here think of me, I am "human," - at least on this scale.
As a researcher, I did have a problem with the scoring choices, i.e., the Don't Know doesn't always fall between Mostly and Never.

It would have been interesting to see if my (and others') humor score has changed (fallen) in the last seven years. But, there are better uses for the time machine I am buiding.

Also, your class sounds like it requires actual work.

I notice that the questions seem to relate "sense of humor" to "being funny." I think they are two different things.

"Being funny" is a performance.

"Sense of humor" is finding humor in things, not performing to make people laugh.

I think you have to take 50 points off your 'playfulness score' just for writing down all your answers - and another -100 for actually going through and doing the calculations.

On the other hand, if you did complete the whole thing you could probably get a job at Midstate Office Supply with this guy.

Maybe it might help someone take a step back that needs to and lighten up some.

Some people need to find out if they even have a sense of humor.

If they don't then maybe this would help them realize what a bummer they are to others.

41. This quiz has nothing to do with Humor ability.

I've been paid to write comedy and done standup. I have also dated several comedy people also.

The high scores given here don't match the personalities (offstage) of ANY of the 20-30 professional comedians that I've met.

Maybe others have a different experience, but i don't think so.

The real test is open mic nite.
