AP: Parents pick prayer over docs; girl dies

WESTON, Wis. - Police are investigating an 11-year-old girl's death from an undiagnosed, treatable form of diabetes after her parents chose to pray for her rather than take her to a doctor.

An autopsy showed Madeline Neumann died Sunday of diabetic ketoacidosis, a condition that left too little insulin in her body, Everest Metro Police Chief Dan Vergin said.

She had probably been ill for about a month, suffering symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, excessive thirst, loss of appetite and weakness, the chief said Wednesday, noting that he expects to complete the investigation by Friday and forward the results to the district attorney.

These people need to be locked up for the rest of their lives.

1. Praise Jeebus! The Holy Shining Apparition Will Save Her!
UNbelievable. Probably thought she was possessed.

3. It was gOD's will, no doubt, that this little girl should be TORTURED by her parents.
Good going, gOD. I'm glad you are so proud to have such fervent believers in your flock that they would torture their child for you. Very Abrahamesque of them, don't you think?

4. My first thought -
Did they have health insurance? It seems they are not fundies totally dependent on prayer and dismissive of doctors. Was it just that they thought it was a bad flu, and she'd get better on her own (with an assist by god) and were not wanting or able to lay out cash for treatment?

Would this have happened if we had real universal health care (not coverage, but healthcare)?
