Frontline "Bush's War" makes a great impression on my hubby's RW friend
My hubby has an 'astronomy buddy' that is a cop and lives in a red state. the friend (we'll call him "Pat") would repeat the RW spin to hubby who would gently try to educate Pat on the truth of what's happening.

'Pat' caught the Frontline shows this week.

He called hubby today and is sick to his stomach. He had no idea what the BushBastards were up to and his words were "These guys are evil bastards!! I had no idea!!"

Slowly, the truth is coming out.....

1. What's interesting is that it took this show to point out the truth to him
when all this time, the truth was out there and he chose to ignore it.

3. Because it was not spoken by the corporate media
It was hidden by them. All to the benefit of those owners who have profited by this war.

19. he's like a lot of folks out there. He watched the Nightly News a few times a week
caught the 'headlines' on the radio and went about his daily life.

He'd listen to hubby, but would dismiss him as a 'radical' or a doomsayer

he asked today how to keep current, we suggested Democracy Now! on his local radio

29. I did too but some
here were very critical of it and not in a nice way.
I think it served it's purpose and FL has a lot of other
shows that covered a lot of what was missing from this one.

6. Nothing about the permanent military bases.
Nothing about the billion dollar American embassy compound.

Subjects hopefully to be examined on future Frontline and Moyers shows.

IMO It'd help prevent a pre-emptive attack on Iran.

8. It was done beautifully, wasn't it? No acidity, just laying out the facts.
My hubby doesn't enjoy keeping up with politics like I do, but this one interested him a lot & he remarked how well done it was. He learned during the "Raygun" (his term) years how deceitful the Republicans were, but I believe "Bush's War" really brought it home.

33. My husband is about the same...
He sat through all of it and I could tell how pissed he was getting. When they showed the clip of bush saying 'Bring them on', he said 'that fuckin' SOB'. I guess he wasn't aware bush said it. He was pissed that he said it while our troops were there and like he was in an action movie. My husband isn't the sort of guy who gets visibly angry very much. He's an easy going guy majority of the time. He never liked bush to begin with. Oh, and part of the reason my husband took this so personally...he's an infantry vet and has seen combat. Plus, his nephew is on his third combat tour right now.

20. not everybody is a policy wonk you know
he works 12 hour shifts, is an active member of his neighborhood. he plows everyone on his street's driveways, makes the snow hill for the neighbor kids, is an avid astronomer. in other words, he has a life and only catches the MSM headlines

he's starting to wake up now and I expect will be a lot more open minded when hubby gives him some information.

it's taken 18 months to gently lead this basically conservative man to the light.

16. Now if we could get it into a wider distribution than PBS
I love PBS, couldn't live without it, but many/most who need the info presented in "Bush's War" simply wouldn't touch it just because it's "that liberal bastion PBS."

Congrats to Pat for being open-minded enough to be able to see/hear the info presented in the show. Glad to hear about his awakening.

17. Sent a note to a family member and urged them to watch Bush's War.
They wrote back claiming they don't have the time, but they had the time to send me an anti-Muslim hate message. Some are so consumed by fear and hatred that they cannot look into the light. Have pity on those whose chances grow slimmer. There is no hiding place from the Kingdom come.

26. fear is a great motivator
Hubby says they live in fear and are always looking for someone else to blame why their lives stink. Illegal Immigrants, Muslims whatever

but usually just 'brown people'

30. He'll still probably end up voting for McCain because he sees him as a "maverick"
who "won't make the same kinds of mistakes Bush did"!

I realize I don't know the guy from Adam, but it's still hard for me to see an entrenched Republican doing a 180° when it comes to voting, on the basis of one particular peice/set of evidence. If it motiviates him, however, to do a lot more research, we might have a chance to "bring him toward the light"!
