Poll question: Who's coffee do you drink?
Edited on Fri Mar-28-08 06:03 PM by DainBramaged
I know we aren't rich (as a group) and buying coffee when you go to work or out is a luxury. I used to swill 4 or 5 16 oz coffees a day from this little deli withing 5 minutes walking distance of my house (they used Martinson's exclusively) and only charged 99 cents a cup. I'd go out of my way to drive there just for coffee. Now I drink green tea for health reasons, but I am curious, (brown).

Oh, and if you do go "elsewhere" tell us where. I only included the big guys I am aware of.

10. I can't have it any more.
And I love coffee.

I make decaf at home. On rare occasions, I buy a decaf to go. The ones from Starbuck's taste almost like real coffee.

Now that I have quite coffee, I notice a real difference when I get it by mistake. (I went to a restaurant last week and forgot to specify decaf). I am not used to the stuff any more. It makes me anxious and keeps me awake.

39. You do know green tea has caffeine,
right?

http://www.pepsiproductfacts.com/infobyproduct.php

The brand you are drinking has 11 mg of caffeine per 8 oz (about half as much as Diet Pepsi - at 24 mg per 8 oz). Still low compared to coffee (at around 165 per 8 oz) - but its not quite none.

16. I used to drink their 1894 blend, amazing stuff and 16 oz. can
Then they stopped making it so I called them. Their "excuse" was that people wanted SMALLER serving resealable containers, not metal cans so they discontinued it.

What a crock of shit.

And just to answer your question, I drink mostly locally roasted, free-trade, shade-grown, organic coffee (four virtues! :-) ) that is delivered to stores by bicycle (make that five virtues).

30. Joe DiMaggio...
I am a big coffee drinker, but am very proud to say I have never walked into, yet wasted any money at a Starbucks or some "gourmet" coffee place. Back in the 80's, the price of coffee soared, and we got into the habit then of stocking up on regular grind...usually having a couple pounds on hand and, honestly, I can think of a lot more things we buy and use that have gotten more expensive.

I also have a rule...no caffine (coffee) after 6pm, no alcohol (which I rarely drink) until after 6pm...and I avoid ever trying to mix the two. While I love coffee, I hated the "buzz"...especially from a Mickie Ds or Starbucks. To me, going into one of those places is like throwing money away...or like spending $3 for a bottle of water that is free in a nearby tap.

38. Mostly I roast my own. But I'd like to plug Intelligentsia, Paradise Roasters, and Counter Culture
There are some other artisan roasters we could list but I want to be brief:

www.intelligentsiacoffee.com
www.paradiseroasters.com
www.counterculturecoffee.com

Order from these folks directly online, you will receive coffee fresher than anything you can get unless you roast it yourself or know a local roaster personally. Yeah you can get freshly roasted coffee at Costco --but quality it ain't!
The surprising thing about the first rate coffee you can get online from these artisan roasters is that it doesn't cost much more than the truly vile, undrinkable shit that you find on most store shelves to get the world's best coffees done to perfection and shipped directly to you in the mail.
