"I am thinking like a Republican but voting like a Democrat"
DH and I went out to dinner the other night and the couple at the table next to us was having an interesting conversation. He was a Republican and she asked him who he was going to support in the election this year. He said he was very disappointed in his party and said the current leaders were not truly representing Republican ideals. He thought the war had gone on too long and the economy was a mess. And he complained that no Republicans were emerging with plans to address any critical issues facing our country. He said 4 years ago they were too concerned about gay marriage and that was a "non-issue". He said he was surprised Bush got re-elected and has learned that we can't really trust the results of that election.

So then the lady with him asked "Well what are you going to do then?" And he said it is very clear to him that in this coming election "I am thinking like a Republican but voting like a Democrat".

3. We all have the same general economic values.
We all want prosperity, oppose unemployment, dislike inflation, don't enjoy paying taxes, etc. These values are Republican only in the sense that Republicans are supposed to treasure them more and to be more reluctant to sacrifice them for other goals such as equality and clean air.

The party with the best record of serving Republican economic values is the Democrats. It isn't even close.

4. Believing in everything the Republics have always claimed to stand for...
but never do:

1) Fiscal Responsibility
2) Small Government (without the private contractors "picking up the slack")
3) Regulation
4) The Constitution and Bill of Rights
5) The Rule of Law
6) Human Rights
7) Decency
8) Christian Values
9) Family Values
10) The Right to Life

People who vote Republic are (mostly) Democrats in sheeple clothing, Charlie Brown to their leaders Lucy.

8. He was old, fat and ugly
And I think the woman with him was his sister. They both said "Mom" a couple times. Not "your mom" or "my mom".

But your reply made me laugh. Thanks :)
