Anything about Siegelman's release on MSM? |
|
The former governor of a state is released from prison, pending appeal, after months of heel-dragging and obfuscation by the repug U.S. attorneys who prosecuted him, and the repug judge who sentenced him and denied bond.
Claims that the governor was a political prisoner.
And apparently a major investigation of the politicization of the DOJ by The House Judiciary Committee in the offing. And Siegelman will testify.
To me that would be a pretty big story. I've been watching C-span WJ most of the morning. Nary a mention from callers or commentators.
Just flipped over to Russert (I know...I know) and the Elmer Fudd-like head of the CIA, Gen. Michael Hayden, is on scrabbling to justify what his agency has done. BTW, you'll be pleased to learn that 'we don't waterboard any more. And we 'only' did it 3 times anyway.'
I'll try and catch some more of the talking head-pundit shows this morning. Anybody seen ANYTHING about this in the corporate media?

3. Dan Abrams Is All Over It... |
|
He said he talked to Siegleman in his car on the way back from the prison and would have had him on his show, but Siegelman was just wanting to get home. It sounds like he will have him on next week. He also had Scott Horton on the show and appears to agree that this case was politicized. I also expect 60 Minutes will do some sort of follow-up on their report.
The "Mainstream" or "Main Street" media is neither. It's corporate. It's a packaged show that is interested in its own spin...it's long divorced itself from real journalism or even reality. A case like Siegelman's isn't "sexy"...there's no dead blonde or live boy...and it can't be explained with a titalating photo or smoking gun video. You can't "soundbite" this story and it's toxic for many who are vested in the so-called "MSM".
These days there are many issues to keep track of...all the corruption of this regime, Iraq, an economy in free-fall...it's more than the stripped-down, bottom-line corporate media can cover or wants to. It's a ratings winner to play partisan games...divide and exploit rather than inform. The good news is there are many other sources than the corporate media to find out what's going on. The Siegelman case has been championed by the blogosphere and this is where the demand for truth and justice will flow.
Turn off Timmeh and Tweety...pay more attention to the many great blogs, bloggers and dedicated writers who aren't stuck inside the Beltway bubble.
