Food supply hit by battle
Food supply hit by battle

BAGHDAD: Iraqis in areas thrown into turmoil by five straight days of battles between security forces and Shi'ite militiamen said yesterday they are scared to leave their homes and are running short of food and water.

The situation in the worst-hit areas, Sadr City and in the southern city of Basra, is deteriorating, residents said.

Basic services have come to a near halt in both Sadr City, with a population of two million, and the port city of Basra, home to some 1.5m people. Medical supplies are also running thin.

"Hospitals are overflowing with the wounded. The American army is preventing ambulances from entering the area. Shops are closed. There is no food inside the city," a resident said...http://www.gulf-daily-news.com/articles.asp?article=213167&Sn=WORL&IssueId=2769

1. The American army is preventing ambulances from entering the area
That is disgusting. How many more hundreds, or thousands, or even hundreds of thousands will continue to die from not only war, but the results of war: depleted uranium, disease, starvation.

That sentence somehow brings together all the anger I have regarding this damn war and causes me to be disgusted. I'm more than that, but don't want to splatter curse words all over the screen.

3. It is sickening...I wish that I could go over there and ...and...
what?...I am only 5'1", and don't know how to handle a gun...
maybe if I had superpowers, it would be to stop bullets and explosions from happening, put a "force field" around all the fighters and hold them in suspended animation until I could sweep through the city with a breath and a wave of my hand and rebuild the buildings, put all the broken pieces back together and give every family their lives back, with food on the shelves and running water...

I know it is just a wish, but oh, the humanity! If I could save the world in an instant, if only
