His principles. His character. His intelligence.
His interview on 60 Minutes made me proud to be a Democrat, and proud to be American.
His work since the debacle of 2000, which deeply wounded so many of us, is reminiscent to me of the tremendous courage and strength shown by those who immigrated to the United States, determined to make a better world for their children, even though they arrived with nothing but their own fortitude, hopes, and dreams to sustain them.
Our national identity has been horribly desecrated by this administration.
But when I look at Al Gore, I see what made America great. It reminds me that America, despite the horrors that have been perpetuated in our names, remains the great promise to humanity that it was founded to be.
Thank you, Al Gore.

4. I purposely left the presidency out it, |

and he may always find that he has greater latitude to effect change outside of the presidency, but while I see where that opinion is coming from, there is always the possibility than the man (or woman) can make the office, instead of the other way around.

5. Like all people who find themselves in a difficult position, he struggled with it and then... |
|
moved on.
At least one of the two primary season Democrats currently under consideration will have to do the same sometime before November.
I wonder who that will be? At the moment, there appears to be one Messiah and one Pariah (depending on your viewpoint). You can fill in the names.
This is the most acrimonious primary election season I can remember. I've been around since 1939, so that's a bunch.
Thanks for your comments.
Peace, love and happiness,

26. I think Al realizes Obama's potential to reach people is enormous but I love both of them |
|
Al is a pioneer and made Obama's rise and to some extent the resurgence of the Dem party possible. He stood up to Bush and co when no one else would back in the early days of 2002 and even before then in 2000 when the election results were obviously manipulated. He made it okay to speak out against them. He is an American hero to me. I really think he is always so ahead of his time. 30 years from now when we see the effects of climate change the same bozos who said climate change was a "hoax" will be crying and begging for help or at least they will be dead. I like and respect Obama and am happy to vote for him. He has charisma and his speeches are amazing. He is a great campaigner and maybe Al is not as good at that but his strength is being a visionary and Obama's is putting new ideas into words so people will listen such as his speech on race. I like them both and they are both good for our country.

But I digress into presidential politics, when I really just want to express my appreciation for his statesmanship, and his model of global citizenship.

I also want to give kudos to all that Gore and his family have done for the rest of us. He is a statesman like no other in our history. Generations from now people will look back and wonder what was wrong with us for not making him our president.

30. I feel the same way, bleever, I've always thought of Al Gore |
|
as a first class statesman and visionary. No doubt he knew when he championed opening up the Internet for the people, he was empowering those who despise him to instantaneously voice their opinions, whether justified or not to the entire world as well those of us who love and respect him, I believe this screams integrity.
I also agree with the poster above regarding Al Gore's leadership in getting Al Sharpton and Pat Robertson to sit on the same couch and make an ad together.I can't help but wonder how this type of leadership would've affect the world at large in a far more positive manner than the current vacuum of leadership is affecting world relations today.
Thanks for the opportunity to give my thanks, with this thread, bleever.
