I watched a movie yesterday that had a couple of things that made me think
It was called the "Assassination of Richard Nixon" It was about a guy (Sean Penn) that was going to hijack commercial airliner and have it flown into the Whitehouse killing Nixon. This was based on a real event. Something that "no one could have imagined" another part of the story was about becoming a good salesman and Nixon was used as an example of one of the best. Example given was he ran in 1968 on the position of ending the Vietnam war and yet after he was elected he "surged" another hundred thousand troops in Vietnam. In 1972 he once again ran on ending the Vietnam war and "Won" talk about salesmanship. It caused my eyebrows to raise considering how much alike things are today. Another thing was they mentioned America's population being 211 million people and the world's at 3 billion. Today only three decades later and the world's population has more than doubled. What will it be like in another couple of decades...It was a good movie though, caused a lot of thought

3. Nixon didn't win because he was a great salesman.
Nixon won because all the old people who despised hippies voted for him.

4. Very true
and it wasn't just old people. It was middle-aged people, too, and the mass media portraying McGovern as the "hippie candidate." I hardly ever saw McGovern on TV when he wasn't portrayed as being surrounded by shaggy young people.
