Can someone name me one major legislative battle that the Dems have won?
Edited on Mon Mar-31-08 02:52 PM by Cant trust em
Like many one this discussion board, I am frustrated with the weakness of our current democratic majority. Is there any bone someone can throw me so that I don't have to be so annoyed with their lack of backbone?

edit - Increase of the minimum wage is great. Decrease of college loan interest is great. But these were relatively low hanging fruit.

5. By tying it to war funding
The min. wage was tied to caving on funding the war.

There were alot of hearings in the House, so that is good. People like Kucinich, Waxman and Conyers seem to be doing some things. Kucinich is investigating insider trading before 9/11, Conyers subpoenaed Blackwell.

2. The Repubs have insisted since day one that 60 votes will be needed
for Any legislation they don't like to be passed. We need at Least a Democratic President and a larger majority of Congress to accomplish things.

12. exactly
and PNAC tells us they have been planning this for quite some time, so it is not unimaginable that they have planted their own "opposition".

8. FISA, Patriot Act, Invasion of Iraq
too many of them voted for it, so it is more of a pyrrhic victory at best.

11. Gotta agree with you
Way too many times the Dems voted with the crowd. So what if it was going to pass anyway, at least put your vote where your mouth is. The Supreme Court Justices were a good example, where was the filibuster? Bobble Head (Alito) should have been filibustered.

10. I think we don't have a big enough majority to do much of anything.
Hopefully we will get a Dem president and a big enough majority to end a filibuster.

13. We have the House and Senate leaders in charge of what comes to the floor
not a big enough majority is a cop out.

Somehow the Republicans, even in the minority, still have all the power.

14. How many vetoes did Bush use when the repukes were in power? How many when the Dems were in power?
How many filibusters did the repukes use since the Dems were in power? How many were ended?

No not a cop out!
