Please support the Corrie family's release of Rachel's Journals
I got this email today - hope everyone will try and support. Thanks

FROM THE CORRIES:

Friends,

I am thrilled to announce the release of my daughter Rachel's writings in the new book Let Me Stand Alone: The Journals of Rachel Corrie, published by W.W. Norton & Co. and available in bookstores and online! I am also excited to invite you to attend a series of book launch events across the country that Craig and I will be participating in during the month of April. We hope that you and your friends will join us to celebrate Rachel?s book at one of these events and that you will use the attached flyer to help us spread the word about each one.

We are particularly excited that the first book event, on Saturday, April 5th in Berkeley, California, will be filmed by C-SPAN for later broadcast on the program ?Book TV?. This is a wonderful way to launch Rachel?s book and the book tour. We want to make sure the audience is filled for C-SPAN so if you are in the Bay Area, please join us that evening and bring your friends! The event is sponsored by KPFA Radio Station and additional information and advanced ticket sales can be found at their website http://kpfa.org/events/index.php?#1584 More detailed information about all the events is listed below and on the attached flyer.

Working on the book was an alternately exhilarating and challenging process. We agonized over every editing decision?which pieces would Rachel have included? Which would she have wanted to work on further? However, we knew how much Rachel wanted her writing to have a wider impact and we still believe deeply that the questions she pondered and the realities she witnessed are universally important to confront. It is a true milestone for our family, and for Rachel, that her words in this book reach the world.

More information about Let Me Stand Alone, including how to purchase it, can be found at www.letmestandalone.com? If we are not scheduled to be in your area during the April book tour, but you would like to organize a future reading, you can contact us through this website as well.

As Craig wrote in the introduction to the book: Words were sacred to Rachel, and her words have become treasures to us. They are what we have left and are an immense gift to our family. With this book, we offer that gift to you.

We look forward to seeing you in Berkeley, Seattle, Olympia, Portland, DC, New York, Iowa City or Minneapolis! Please do help us spread the word.

Thank you!
Cindy Corrie

3. I hope you won't find this suggestion unkind,
but it might be a good idea for the OP to post a brief description of who Rachel Corrie was, for those who either do not know or do not remember.

I admit, I had to Google to learn it myself.

4. I had attended Rachel's second Memorial Service in Seattle a few years back.
The first one was in her home town of Olympia. I'm not a cared-carrying Christian, so my presence in churches is pretty rare, but that was one of them. Many of her immediate family were present there and spoke movingly of her memory. Among the "dignitaries" present was Congressman Jim McDermott.

Those to whom Rachel Corrie is unfamiliar, are strongly urged to Google her name.

8. That was so cool of you. When I think of someone that young doing
something like that it makes me very reflective of what I've done with my own life - which pales in comparison to the very short one Rachel had. Her family seems to have taken up her cause - which I think would have made her very happy.

9. When I read your reply to my posting that said:
"That was so cool of you. When I think of someone that young doing....", I had to chuckle to myself, having just recently turned 78. But of course, you were referring to Rachel Corrie, whose life was snuffed out at the young age of 24. I'm learning to be a lot less "judgmental" now, than I was at that same age. And, in lack of definitive information to the contrary, I'm willing to concede that the tractor driver hadn't really intended to run her down and kill her. He may well have hoped to frighten her off. But there is NO doubt in my mind that Rachel Corrie knew exactly what she was doing.

Not being a card-carrying Christian, I'm not given to prayer. But I sincerely hope that the tractor driver (perhaps close to Rachel's age), will have his life transformed by that tragedy, and for the better. Instead of getting deeper into uncaring brutishness, let's all here hope that he dedicates the rest of his life towards pursuing the ideals of Rachel Corrie. Stranger things have happened.

"There's no greater love for man than this: that he lay down his life for his friends". That would appear to be gender-specific, but we all know otherwise.

6. Too late to edit so..please look here for a brief description of who she was !!

Rachel was a young american peace activist, working with the International Solidarity Movement (ISM). She was working in Gaza and while protesting the bulldozing of a family's house (known as collective punishment) she was purposely smashed by a caterpillar bulldozer.

She was 24 years old.
