Poll question: Al Gore '08 |
|
This is in response to an LBN thread that party elders are mulling the idea of Al Gore Leading the Democratic Ticket as a "compromise candidate" for the party. Assuming that scenario plays out, what would be your preferred ticket?

Unbeatable. But probably unfair to Obama who has won this primary. Gore/Obama would work as well.

A Gore/Clark ticket would be money in the bank. And with his Hillary connections, maybe it would appease at least that branch of the family?

how would nominating someone who didn't even run unite the party and help democrats feel less disenfranchised?
not to mention, we've "been there, done that". if the ticket were Gore/Clinton, could you imagine the backlash?

There was just some speculation on another thread, and I was curious to see what people thought on the issue. Frankly, I find it pretty far-fetched, but I thought having a coke-addled slacker moron assume the presidency was pretty far-fetched, too.

It's much the same backwards-looking thinking as getting the Clintons back in the White House again... IMO.
In any case, we already have plenty of good candidates. Lets move foreward with them.

I'm a Clinton fan...
I don't Like Obama very much...
But I'll be damned (as it stands right now)... if Obama doesn't at LEAST get VP.
Therefore I voted Gore/Obama.
Unless Obama has something secret against him... as a Clinton fan, I'll never believe in the Dem party if Obama isn't AT LEAST VP.

it would take a lot of "fire in the belly" to even undertake such a thing. Which is why I suspect he won't do it. He's got other ways to make his influence known -- and ways that are largely his to control.

I was just finding it curious that nobody (1 vote, as of this post) was in support of a Gore/Clinton ticket. I know a lot of Hillary supporters have departed recently, but does that mean that all of her supporters here at DU would rather not vote at all than vote for somebody other than Hillary?

Not curious to me Considering they do not like one another. (Meaning Al Gore and Hillary Clinton)
I do not come to this forum (for obvious reasons) often and was unaware that some Clinton supporters left.
My only point was, that Al Gore would not choose Clinton as a vp because they do not like each other.

There was a time. That was then, this is now. Today the Convention(s) are just a show-place for the pre-ordained to get all the free airtime that the Party can convince the MSM to give it. No more and no less.

39. IF it happens, Gore and Edwards |
|
And after I cast my vote, I'll be ditching the Democratic party and disavowing all politics forevermore, because if our party pulls that bullshit, well, I don't know what to say. The people have spoken, the votes have been made. Obama is in the front, Clinton nearly is... If you think the Clintonista caterwauling about FL and MI not getting their votes in is loud, imagine what the sound will be like when EVERY STATE has its primaries overturned by "party leadership"
I love Gore. I love Edwards. I would die to campaign for them. But handing either the nomination, without votes, in spite of the votes already cast for the many Democrats who actually campaigned... that'd be bullshit.

I don't see how Gore/Clinton or Gore/Obama is a compromise. If the object is to keep either Clinton or Obama supporters from staying home or, worse, voting for a Republican, then to me it would have to involve a VP candidate other than Clinton or Obama.
I'm past sick and tired of this primary. At this point, I don't care about the personalities anymore. If Gore can get us out of the economic and diplomatic messes we're in, that's fine with me. If Clinton or Obama becomes the nominee, fine. Whoever gets the nomination, they're going to be a lot better than Bush or McCain. I really don't envy the next President, however. They're going to have one of the biggest challenges any President has had in a long time.

Hillary & Obama are so polarizing that many will not vote this year.
How is it the will of the people when millions refuse to vote because they can't stand one or both of the candidates? :wtf:
