Here's a little story that ought to make you sick. According to the AP, Katrina victims may have to repay money: "Imagine that your home was reduced to mold and wood framing by Hurricane Katrina. Desperate for money to rebuild, you engage in a frustrating bureaucratic process, and after months of living in a government-provided trailer tainted with formaldehyde you finally win a federal grant. Then a collector calls with the staggering news that you have to pay back thousands of dollars. Thousands of Katrina victims may be in that situation. A private contractor under investigation for the compensation it received to run the Road Home grant program for Katrina victims says that in the rush to deliver aid to homeowners in need some people got too much. Now it wants to hire a separate company to collect millions in grant overpayments. The contractor, ICF International of Fairfax, Va., revealed the extent of the overpayments when it issued a March 11 request for bids from companies willing to handle 'approximately 1,000 to 5,000 cases that will necessitate collection effort.' The bid invitation said: 'The average amount to be collected is estimated to be approximately $35,000, but in some cases may be as high as $100,000 to $150,000.'"

Isn't that nice?

In a separate story that affects all suffering homeowners today, The U.S. housing secretary has resigned and will leave office April 18, he said on Monday. Reuters reports that "Housing and Urban Development Secretary Alphonso Jackson said that he is leaving office" (I love this part) "'to attend more diligently to personal and family matters.'"

CNN put it this way: "Earlier this month, Sen. Chris Dodd, D-Connecticut, and Sen. Patty Murray, D-Washington, demanded Jackson's resignation, saying the ethics allegations have distracted from the secretary's ability to handle the nation's housing crisis. The secretary has recently been accused in a lawsuit of retaliating against housing officials in Philadelphia for blocking a land deal with one of Jackson's friends. The FBI has been investigating allegations that Jackson steered a federal contract to a golfing buddy based in South Carolina. Jackson has denied wrongdoing and White House officials have said for months that the president still has confidence in Jackson. . . . Jackson has been a key player in the Bush administration's efforts to handle the national housing and mortgage crisis."

Another crooked Bush crony! Color me shocked . . . . not.

My niece had to have a c-section because her labor was progressing so slowly and the doctor was concerned about the baby's size (he weighed in at almost 8 lbs 9 oz. and my niece is very tiny - she's barely 5 feet tall). In addition, her mom (my sister), has been in the hospital for over a month after emergency heart surgery so she was pretty tuckered out going into the process. Mom and baby are both doing well though, they came home from the hospital today.

The vet's office called about a year-old kitty that the doctor was neutering. Apparently some neighbors of one of the assistants had left their house after being foreclosed and abandoned the poor little guy. He's all black, medium-length fur, but with a huge fluffy tail.

So?

He's exploring the house now. I warned him he's be sharing it with two older women (three if you count me). Mr. c doesn't know yet, but I'll handle him.

They said they were concerned about Mr. c and his grief over losing two kitties in five months, and they thought this was a perfect match.

We rescued Dexter almost a year ago, and I just popped him in his custom, quilted kitty-carrier (bought behind Hubby's back, with Beloved Daughter in on it), and let him out on Hubby's lap. He was ours from then on. We're up to four now. My neighbor, Suzette, is now up to five (she rescued, Mama Cat, Gracie and Mongo). Well, actually, she rescued the rest of them save Dex. We found homes for the other 4.

I guess we're each allowed six out here (but, the County knows about the whole situation, and doesn't care - and is glad they've all found good homes).

I don't know about you, but I just tell them that they ARE all going to get along (and then I give them MY STARE).

Yep - the one thing that gets me through losing a pet is that there are so many needy animals out there looking for loving homes. Mr. c was so heartbroken over Furry that the night she died he was saying "No more. I can't go through this again." Well, New Little Guy is only a year old, so I can point out that he'll probably outlive Mr. c and then it'll be my problem.

My neighbor, the plumber just came in right now
and said he had to put his dog down today.

It had cancer of the brain and body. His father also died of a rare cancer
3 years ago. I honestly believe its the water we get, I don't drink it but they do
and have been living in the same unit for 15 years.

There are abandon oil sumps on the property but the environmental agency
said they are not dangerous.

A craaaazy Monday here at work. I hope they let me alone for a couple of Mike hours!

We have reached a decision for my little old LuLu girl. I will have her for another week or so, have made arrangements with the vet.... she wants to go, and I'm finally at peace with it. She's not in pain, but has thyroid now, and other things.

I have a wonderful Intuitive and we had a long chat last night. She confirmed everyting I suspected.

So, I'll have her at least another week. :cry:

Been kinda out of it lately.
But I did start playing music again.

I decided to try bass, because it needs all the left hand of classical guitar, and the strings are big enough that my half numb right hand can work them.

Been spending an hour a day or so playing along with Yes, Cream, Soul Coughing, and the Zep. It has really helped me survive the month and a half that the weather has been unridable.
