He's baaaaaaack...

A third American war crime in the making
By Paul Craig Roberts
Online Journal Contributing Writer

----snip----

Two massive failures by the American media, the Democratic Party, and the American people have paved the way for Cheney’s long planned attack on Iran. One failure is the lack of skepticism about the US government’s explanation of 9/11. The other failure is the Democrats’ refusal to begin impeachment proceedings against President Bush for lying to the Congress, the American people, and the world and launching an invasion of Iraq based on deception and fabricated evidence.

If an American president can start a war exactly as Adolf Hitler did with pure lies and not be held accountable, he can get away with anything. And Bush and his evil regime have.

Hitler launched World War II with his invasion of Poland after staging a “Polish attack” on a German radio station. On the night of August 31, 1939, a group of Nazis disguised in Polish uniforms seized a radio station in Germany. Hitler announced that “last night Polish troops crossed the frontier and attacked Germany,” a claim no more true than the Bush Regime’s claim that “Saddam Hussein has weapons of mass destruction.” Hitler’s lie failed, because his invasion of Poland, which began the next day allegedly in reprisal for the Polish attack, had obviously been planned for many months.

Iran is a beautiful and developed country. It is an ancient civilization. It has attacked no one. Iran is a signatory to the Nuclear Non-proliferation Treaty. Iran is permitted by the treaty to have a nuclear energy program. The Bush Regime’s case against Iran is based on the Bush Regime’s desire to deny Iran its rights under the treaty. . . .

1. the republican-owned media is largely responsible for this
and continues to be. and i doubt there's a single thing the public or congress can do that will stop this latest ever so quiet march to war.

3. Congress is as much responsible for the misinformation as the corporate media
They themselves often -- too often -- fail to recognize that they're being lied to. And that's because they either want to believe what they're hearing, or they can't be bothered to inform themselves.

The majority in Congress who speak up publicly are spewing RW rhetoric, not countering the claims.

Replace most of the ignorant collaborators currently occupying the Hill with random DUers and the American people would finally start hearing the unpalatable but necessary truth.

4. the main problem with our representatives is
they start feeding at the trough and just keep getting fatter and fatter. They spend more time collecting money to remain at the trough then they do representing "we the people". Has anyone seen a slim congresscritter? Aside from Dennis that is.

6. I'd debate "developed country"
The Iranian attitude toward things like feminism, gay rights, Judaism and so on is frankly deplorable.

Doesn't justify bombing them of course but nor does it mean that they become good just by opposing someone bad.

11. Good question
And an argueable point. I'm British. One of our distractions is hearing news of some Americans doing crazy stuff (usually involving evolution) and asking ourselves if the US has ever really been civilised.

8. You're right on the first two...
But Iran has no issue with Judaism. Or Christianity.

But when it comes to feminism and gay rights, really, who the hell are Americans to talk? No, we don't execute the gay people in America, we just press society against them and ruin their lives and undermine their hopes until they do it themselves. No, we don't endorse beating women or having them at a lesser legal status - but we don't really work too hard to stop abusers of women, or the eternal social stigma attatched to not having a penis.

The big difference between our nations on these issues is that Iran has taken the time to write their society's bigotry down.

10. OK, I stand corrected on Judaism
As far as the others go, I'm British and we actually are trying to make women and gay people equals (admittedly, with mixed success).
