Thank you DUers! My 1000th post

Thank you, DUers, for being there for me. You all have been invaluable in my day-to-day life. I have been informed, entertained, corrected and supported in ways that are immeasurable. It has taken me four years to get here, as I lurk more than I post, but I log in daily and DU has made a major difference in my life for the better. In fact, this is the first time I even started a thread!

I would have liked my first thread to be more of a profound statement, but there are people in this community who are far better at writing than I, or who have studied history or Constitutional law. I also would have liked to extend a special thanks to certain individuals whose writing I particularly respect (and look out for) or to those who provide the most service or to those members who have put the most human face on the Iraq war and other issues affecting all of us. But in doing so, there would have been so many others who I would have inadvertently left out.

Maybe my 2000th post will be better!

13. And that's the next probable step for me,

attending a DU meetup! I'll keep you in mind the next time I'm in your area, though I'm usually going through Bakersfield to get to someplace else. There's a great Mexican market in Arvin I go to on my way to Death Valley where I go twice a year.

I have yet to meet anyone from DU except my wife :)

And Kern county is about as red as it gets in CA....

15. Some of the best tidbits I have gotten

from DUers have been the ones who are in the "red" areas. (Remember "better dead than red? My how things change!) I have the "luxury" of living in an area that is not only liberal, it is also very active politically. I especially appreciate hearing from people who live in a sea of red, how they cope, and what they're doing on the grassroots level. I also like the personal anecdotes about their daily lives. Its a big country we live in.

The wife is an artist as well (though she does not do much these days).

Got some ideas myself for some art projects, but I am too much of a computer geek to dabble in paint :)
