Then it will hurt their effort to research alternative energy.......

Even so, lying to Congress is a crime. Let's start prosecuting these assholes.

8. It wasn't a lie, it was a threat. |
|
But it was an empty threat, because they couldn't be trusted to research alternate energy in any case.
Just one more reason to boycott EXXON-Mobil.

|
"Were you a member of Dick Cheney's Energy Task Force?" I would love to see them squirm on that one.

5. We want results, not just research. |
|
The big oil companies are "researching" alternative energy into never-never-land. It's time to fund the research by the independent researchers with taxes on traditional energy. The tax incentives should go to the independent companies. It's time to get some competition going.
The first railroads were built in this country were built by many smaller companies. At the outset, the automobile industry involved many small companies. That's how you start industry. The big corporations, those that dominate a sector of the market, will never seriously fund the research on products that will replace or displace their primary product. It just does not happen.

6. So why are tax incentives given to oil companies anyway? |
|
Why not pour that money into new alternative energy startups and let the competition begin?

Why else would they be raking in $40 billion a quarter AND get free money from the government (which they are the only industry that does)?

|
wasn't a bit low considering their $46 BILLION profit.
Apparently, throwing more money at developing alternatives isn't going to bring them to market any sooner.

15. Not only should they not get their tax incentives |
|
but they should be forced to divest in their interest in alternative energy, since their interest in alternative energy is in not developing it.
Such divestment should have been done 30 years ago.
