My 60th B-Day party in ATL on Saturday. Too cool .. too much!

My family orchestrated the party. It was at my brother's digs in Ansley Park (he is a gay, rich radiologist partnered with a gay, rich lawyer). I invited 40 some-odd people. Thirty-eight showed up.

Dr. D's fundy-preacher (PCA) brother and his Bob Jones-educated wife came. We were worried about the culture clash with our many queer friends, but it did not happen. My B-I-L and his wife were great! The gay guys and gals loved them. When the caterers put the food on, B-I-L prayed (jack up the roof!) .. that was OK. He blessed my brother and his partner by name! He is a cool guy, but his PCA congregation in Spartanburg would have shit.

My old best friends were there. One, a character, is now BFF with Winston Groom (author of "Forrest Gump"). Another, who spent her last 30 years in Madrid, showed with her new boyfriend .. who looks exactly like her late dad. Her dad was the one who started me flying and encouraged my liberal leanings. He was a pediatrician. After his divorce in 1965, he went to Viet Nam and worked as a COORDS pediatrician in My Tho until 1969 (had a real bad time during Tet 68).

Dr. D. gave me a membership to the Greenville "Y" for my 60th. I went yesterday and today. Like Yossarian, I want to live forever or die trying.

On turning 60 (with Al Gore and Madokie), I am ever so keen on my buds on the wall who had no chance. That's why I hate G.W. Bu$h so damn much!
