My trip to a clinic today |
|
So I am working on starting a new job soon. Better money, insurance, good future, etc. All I had to do was go take a drug test, have a physical, and show that I could lift 60lbs (for a computer job).
I passed it all - until it got to lifting 60lbs and they took my blood pressure. Normally I am below normal. But this time I pegged real high - like 165/115. Holy crap.
So I went back another day, and while it was better (140/105) it was still really high for me. So they suggested I see a Dr. at the local clinic.
I have High blood pressure and pneumonia and they wrote me a prescription for the meds (again, no insurance and little money).
They suggested I go to wal-marts and get my meds, total for 4 prescriptions was $26. Better than I used to pay with insurance and going to wal-greens and such.
The clinic (which oddly enough my wife used to work for) was awesome - all they wanted was my name and some basic info and they saw me, and I only had to pay $20 (and they would have waived that if I didn't have it at the time). During my several hours there I was one of only two people in the office that spoke english - most were hispanic.
And that did not bother me at all. Here were people trying to survive and get healthy, and I could care less where they came from or what language they spoke. And it is sad to me that so many do.
When I went to get my 4 prescriptions filled there was a woman of Indian descent there, and the pharmacist was able to talk to her in her native tongue and help her out with her issues. And I felt glad that the old lady was able to get the help she needed from her.
I don't get why so many are up in arms over language and health issues in this country. If I had not had this clinic to go to (subsidized by our taxes and grants) I might well be facing death in the near future. If these other people, who might be here legally or not, did not have a place to go to they might well be suffering day in and out. If the lady at wal-mart did not speak the language of her customer who knows what she may have ended up getting (or not getting).
I don't speak medical language, many don't speak computer talk, and I sure as hell cannot talk cars.
I cannot afford to see a Dr at his/her office for full price, and most others cannot either (that is why they have health insurance) - so most don't have a problem with paying a small fee (read, a tax if you will) and balancing out the load based on risk. But when you mention that all people here should have the same access they cringe and cry 'welfare queens' and so on.
The RW is so jacked up it is not even funny anymore. And the most sad thing is that they don't even see it.
I have meds and hope tonight because we have clinics that help out people like me.

2. K & R. Repukes have destroyed our country. Not that our country wasn't f*cked up before.... |
|
But they are finishing it off now.... Unless we WAKE UP and stop this any way we can.

What free clinics are left might well be next on the Republicans' list for demolition.

5. Actually - and I know this will be hard to believe - Community Health Centers |
|
(which are not strictly speaking "free" but provide services on a sliding fee scale) have for some decades now had bipartisan support. This is true at the federal level, and at the state level for at least some states.
I would assume the bipartisan support stems from two different reasons - the Dems for the purpose of providing for the uninsured, the GOP to keep the bandaid on the health care crisis.

9. I'm sorry you're sick, but I'm glad you got to see a doctor and get some drugs. |

You should live here in Oklahoma--the repukes are trying to run anyone who's not a white, anglo-saxon, born-again bible-thumper out of the state. I'm sure that the jackass who's leading the push will be running against our very popular DEMOCRATIC governor in the next election.
Why are people so afraid of someone who doesn't look or think like them? I just can't figure it out.
Get to feeling better soon.
